Less than a month following the last major recall for its Super Duty line, Ford is once again issuing a recall for its heavy-duty trucks. This time it’s the 2016 model year that’s specifically affected, and the potential consequences are serious.

Some 310,200 model-year 2016 Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 trucks are affected. The culprit is dust, which may accumulate in the steering-wheel clock spring. This could cause a disconnection in the electrical connection that could result in the driver airbag not deploying as intended, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
Dealers will replace the steering-wheel clock spring for free; Ford did not say if a Swiffer would also be involved. The automaker will begin notifying owners July 5, but those with further questions can call its customer service line at 866-436-7332 (Ford’s number for this recall is 22S35), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
