Acura is bringing back an old name and giving it a modern twist: The 2024 Acura ZDX will return to the lineup as the brand’s first all-electric SUV. It will be available in base and sport-oriented Type S versions when it goes on sale next year, according to a teaser released today.

The previous ZDX was a gas-powered SUV with swoopy styling and not-great fuel economy; it was discontinued after the 2013 model year. Flash forward to 2024, and the ZDX’s wild styling returns, sans engine, according to the teaser pic Acura peeped today.

The brand said the new SUV’s styling is based on the Precision EV Concept, which debuted last year. One styling element that looks like it carried over to the production model is a subdued version of the Precision EV Concept’s front lighting design, including an illuminated take on Acura’s diamond pentagon grille.

While Acura provided no details about power specs, battery capacity or range, it did say the ZDX will be its fastest, most powerful production SUV and that it will be made in America. In a prior release, the brand also said the ZDX will initially be built in collaboration with GM and use GM’s Ultium battery technology and EV platform. Several forthcoming GM EVs will also use the platform, including the Chevrolet Blazer EV.

A few other details were released about the 2024 ZDX ahead of its full reveal: It will be the first Acura to have the Google Built-In infotainment system and the first vehicle in a new collaboration with the Bang & Olufsen luxury audio company.

The 2024 Acura ZDX will make its debut on Aug. 17 during Monterey Car Week and go on sale in early 2024.
