All the Pickup Truck News: Canyon and Ridgeline Reviewed, 2020 Titan XD Emerges and More

In the wake of our recent comparison of mid-size pickup trucks, we’ve published two in-depth reviews of two of the competitors: the winning 2019 Honda Ridgeline and last-place 2019 GMC Canyon.

What stood out to reviewer Mike Hanley about the Ridgeline were the same things that propelled it to first place in our comparison: excellent ride quality, a comfortable and functional interior, a refined V-6 engine and loads of cargo space thanks to the Ridgeline’s un-pickup-like unibody platform. Most importantly, it offered that at the lowest as-tested price in the comparison, making it a strong value play.

As for the Canyon, well, it’s behind the times. Reviewer Brian Wong praised the truck’s engine but found it lacking almost everywhere else. The brakes were vague, never seeming to produce deceleration commensurate to pedal force, and Wong found, that under brisk acceleration, the Canyon’s transmission held things back. Materials quality inside the cabin was also a low point, particularly given our test truck’s top-of-the-line Denali trim. Wong’s conclusion? The Canyon badly needs a full redesign.
We also covered the debut of the redesigned 2020 Nissan Titan XD, which follows in the (smaller) footsteps of the recently redesigned half-ton Nissan Titan (sans XD). For those interested in towing, we looked at the 2020 Toyota Tundra’s towing capacities based on various possible configurations. Finally, we covered a recall issued for 2019-20 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, both for possible issues with a folding tonneau cover.
