Hyundai has released the first sketches of its next all-electric vehicle, the Ioniq 6, and it looks a lot like the Prophecy concept revealed at the 2020 Geneva International Motor Show. While only a sketch, the Ioniq 6 appears to share the flowing lines and cheeky rear spoiler of its concept predecessor, using what Hyundai calls “Electrified Streamliner” design language.
Hyundai says the Ioniq 6 will ride on the automaker’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) but has not yet provided power, range or charging estimates. The South Korean automaker also hasn’t announced whether the Ioniq 6 will be front-, rear- or all-wheel drive, or some combination of the three depending on trim and options. All that’s promised currently are a “stretched wheelbase and optimized interior design.”
For comparison, the Ioniq 5 is available in RWD or AWD, providing EPA-estimated ranges from 220 to 303 miles with RWD depending on the use of a standard- or long-range battery pack. The long-range-only AWD Ioniq 5 is more powerful due to its additional electric motor but offers only 256 miles of range. Expect the Ioniq 6 to offer similar configuration choices but possibly more range, power or both.
Hyundai says teaser images of the actual Ioniq 6 will be revealed in the near future, with the full reveal coming later this month. Be sure to stay tuned for the full reveal and any additional information Hyundai provides.
