BMW Recalls 70,000-Plus EVs for Motor Software Issue
BMW is recalling over 70,800 electric vehicles over an issue with the electric drive motor software.

Affected vehicles include model-year 2022-24 iX SUVs and i4 sedans; model-year 2023-24 i7 sedans; and model-year 2024 i5 sedans. The electric drive motor software may shut down the high-voltage system and cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.
To resolve the issue, the electric drive motor software can be updated by a dealer or via an over-the-air update for free. BMW will begin notifying owners Aug. 5, but those with further questions can contact BMW customer service at 800-525-7417, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
