Buick Enclave, Chevy Traverse, GMC Acadia Recalled for Defective Airbags
In a recall that echoes the infamously sprawling Takata crisis but isn’t related, GM is now recalling approximately 2,700 variants of its Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia mid-size SUVs over potentially exploding driver-side airbag inflators.

Owners of model-year 2015 Enclaves, Traverses and Acadias are affected. The driver’s frontal airbag inflator — manufactured by ARC Automotive — may explode during deployment due to a manufacturing defect. This may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, resulting in serious injury or death. GM acknowledged one report of the issue in November 2021 but no deaths.
To resolve the issue, dealers will replace the driver’s airbag module for free. GM will begin notifying owners May 30, but those with further questions can call Buick at 800-521-7300, Chevrolet at 800-222-1020, GMC at 800-462-8782, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
