The Nissan Xterra is one of the most traditional compact SUVs you can buy these days — if you’re not looking at the Jeep Wrangler. But the Xterra’s rough-and-tumble nature is a pain on well-kept asphalt, according to Cars.com Senior Editor Kristin Varela. The Xterra is too tall for some kids to get into easily by themselves, and the interior amenities and design are pretty austere, she says.
