Today, GM made some bold statements about repaying federal loans, but it also announced it would release the Chevy Volt plug-in electric in October instead of its original December on-sale date.

Not much more information on the Volt was revealed, but the change is certainly significant. It will give GM a head start on the Nissan’s Leaf, which is expected to go on sale in December. Both will be sold in limited quantities in select markets.
