This is just a quick note to alert anxious car fans out there of the latest news regarding the 2007 Detroit auto show. Word today is Mazda will debut a revised version of the Tribute compact SUV. The vehicle will receive new exterior and interior treatment similar to the new Ford Escape we saw in Los Angeles; the vehicles share a substantial amount of parts. There’s no word on whether a Tribute Hybrid will be announced.

Nissan will debut its all-new Rogue compact SUV for the U.S. market. We’re guessing it will greatly resemble — if it isn’t actually the same as — the Qashqai, shown here, that debuted for the world market in Paris earlier this year. The Rogue will be a production vehicle to go on sale in the fall of 2007.

Nissan will also show the Bevel Design Concept, an interpretation of an SUV in a very small package.

NBC will broadcast a two-hour special called “The International Auto Show” about the Detroit event at 1 p.m. EST on Jan. 21. We’ve always wondered why NBC Sports would decide to air this opposite an NFL championship game instead of the Saturday before, but who are we to judge? Of course, we’ll have live coverage online during the show’s press days, Jan. 7 – 9.
