Following a recall that included its Maxi-Cosi Coral XP earlier in March, child-safety seat manufacturer Dorel is back with another for the car seat, this time over concerns that it’s not sufficient to restrain an infant on its own.

Some 14,500 Coral XP rear-facing infant seats with the model number IC313 are affected. The child seat’s inner carrier was determined to be insufficient to restrain a child without the use of the outer carrier, which is a supplemental device. Without the outer carrier, an occupant has an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Owners are advised to only use the inner carrier of the Coral XP when it’s attached to the outer carrier and installed with or without the base using the vehicle belt restraint system, consistent with the existing instruction booklet and labels. To resolve the issue, Dorel will offer a refund or replace the child seat for free. Owners will be notified April 7, but those with further questions can call the manufacturer at 877-416-8111 or visit NHTSA’s website to check their car seat’s brand or model for other recalls and learn more.
