Drive Pain: Subaru Recalls 198,000 Ascents, Legacys, Outbacks for Drive Chain Issue
Subaru has issued a recall for some 198,300 vehicles due to a programming error with its transmission control unit.

Affected vehicles include model-year 2019-20 Ascent SUVs and model-year 2020 Legacy wagons and Outback cars. A programming error in the transmission control unit may allow the clutch to engage before the drive chain is completely clamped; an improperly secured drive chain may slip and break, causing a loss of drive power and increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will reprogram the transmission control unit, inspect the data for chain slip and visually inspect the chain guide. If evidence of chain slippage or damage is found, the transmission will be replaced. All repairs will be performed for free.
