Suffering two major recalls to open up the month of April, Ford is issuing guidance in one of them for nearly 345,500 Escape and Bronco Sport SUVs regarding a potential oil leak.
Affected vehicles include model-year 2020-22 Escapes and model-year 2021-22 Bronco Sports equipped with the turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine. The engine oil separator housing may crack and develop an oil leak, which in the presence of an ignition source such as hot engine or exhaust components can increase the risk of a fire.
Dealers will inspect the oil separator for damage or leaks and replace the separator and seals, as necessary, for free. Ford will begin notifying owners April 18, but those with further questions can call the automaker at 866-436-7332 (Ford’s number for this recall is 22S21), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
