OK, let us preface this by saying that adding fewer options when you buy your new vehicle is not going to save you massive amounts of gas. This is not a “Mega Gas-Saving Moment,” it is merely a “If You’re Really Looking to Pinch Pennies Gas-Saving Moment.”
However, certain options do conspire to slightly decrease your fuel economy. For instance, any option that adds a motor will add to the overall weight of your vehicle: Automatic seats, power windows and power tailgates all fall into this category. A moonroof presents a double-whammy because not only does the motor add weight, but it also adds significant drag every time you drive with it open.
Again, forgoing these features will not save you bags of money, but over the life of a vehicle, it will add up.
