A spokesman claimed the move would allow the automaker to focus on its four core brands—Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC—but it’s not hard to see why GM wants to disassociate itself from its own product.
Following its bankruptcy and receiving $50 billion in federal aid, some people do not like GM all that much. However, the automaker’s own research finds that people outside of the Midwest don’t always link the company’s core brands to GM.
The months of negative headlines have damaged the company, and its best chance now lies in making cars people like. Maybe someday it can slap the corporate logo back on its vehicles.
