GMC Brings AT4X Off-Road Trim to Sierra HD Lineup
When GMC unveiled the AT4X trim level for the 2022 Sierra 1500 and 2023 Canyon, it showed the brand’s intentions to make off-road performance more of a focus for its trucks. Now it’s taking the next step for its heavy duties with the 2024 Sierra 2500 AT4X and yet more hardcore AT4X AEV Edition.

The Sierra 2500 AT4X largely mirrors the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 ZR2 in that it’s only available as a four-wheel-drive crew cab. It also has the same 1.5-inch suspension lift, Multimatic Dynamic Suspensions Spool Valve shocks, electronic locking rear differential, red tow hooks and 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory all-terrain tires mounted on 18-inch wheels. The AT4X also features trim-specific front upper and lower control arms and steering knuckles, a larger steel transfer case skid plate and an aluminum skid plate up front. The AT4X AEV Edition comes with a 1.6-inch suspension lift, stamped steel bumpers with recovery points, unique 18-inch Salta wheels and front winch capability. Steel skid plates help protect vulnerable areas like the steering rack from damage.
The interior gets an AT4X exclusive hue called Obsidian Rush that comes with wood trim, and leather front seats with a massage function are standard. Also standard are a new 13.4-inch infotainment system, 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, 15-inch head-up display and 12-speaker Bose stereo. The AEV Edition features AEV logos on the front head restraints and floormats.
A new Off-Road Mode allows drivers to adjust various vehicle settings, such as traction and stability controls; it also alters shift patterns and throttle progression for improved performance and control off-road. And just like the rest of the 2024 Sierra HD lineup, the AT4X is available with a heap of towing tech, including a transparent trailer view, trailer blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control with trailering and 14 camera views.
Performance comes from the 2024 Sierra HD’s base 6.6-liter V-8 engine that produces 401 horsepower and 464 pounds-feet of torque; a 6.6-liter turbo-diesel V-8 making 470 hp and 975 pounds-feet of torque is optional. Both engines are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Pricing and Release Date
The 2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4X and AT4X AEV Edition will begin making their way to dealerships in the fall. Pricing will be available closer to the start of production.
