Ford announced pricing on a new STX edition of the 2021 Expedition XL, the most affordable trim of its full-size SUV. The STX costs $970 more than the XL, for a total of $51,690 with destination on a rear-wheel-drive model. As with the regular Expedition XL, four-wheel drive is optional — but you can’t get the STX Package on the Expedition Max, the extended-length version..
Ford added the XL trim for the 2021 model year, the first year since 2012 that the Expedition had an XL grade. It loses the SUV’s third-row seat, a feature present in the four trims that slot above (the XLT, Limited, King Ranch and Platinum). But the XL’s starting price, at $50,720 with destination, undercuts the XLT by $3,785 to mark the cheapest-ever base price on the current-generation Expedition. That’s likely much-needed relief for some shoppers on an SUV that got notably pricier when it was last redesigned.
