Here's What the New STX Edition on the 2021 Ford Expedition Costs

Ford announced pricing on a new STX edition of the 2021 Expedition XL, the most affordable trim of its full-size SUV. The STX costs $970 more than the XL, for a total of $51,690 with destination on a rear-wheel-drive model. As with the regular Expedition XL, four-wheel drive is optional — but you can’t get the STX Package on the Expedition Max, the extended-length version..

Ford added the XL trim for the 2021 model year, the first year since 2012 that the Expedition had an XL grade. It loses the SUV’s third-row seat, a feature present in the four trims that slot above (the XLT, Limited, King Ranch and Platinum). But the XL’s starting price, at $50,720 with destination, undercuts the XLT by $3,785 to mark the cheapest-ever base price on the current-generation Expedition. That’s likely much-needed relief for some shoppers on an SUV that got notably pricier when it was last redesigned.

So what does the extra $970 get you? Versus the XL, the STX has a few cosmetic exterior upgrades, including a gloss-black grille and unique 18-inch wheels. Bigger upgrades come inside, where the STX adds tri-zone automatic climate control and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Lesser XL grades, by contrast, have manual climate control and a 4.2-inch display without such smartphone connectivity.

For those who don’t need the extra length, that seems a reasonable upcharge for the STX’s extras. Indeed, Ford reckons many XL shoppers will choose it: Although the automaker projects just 6% of retail shoppers buying a 2021 Expedition or Expedition Max will get the XL, it thinks about half of that group will spring for the STX.

The 2021 Ford Expedition’s STX package is available for ordering now.
