As big fans of both the Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric sedan and the Ioniq 5 N high-performance hatchback electric vehicle, we are rather excited about the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 6 N. The brand has released its first teaser photos of the imminent sports sedan, as well as a few clues as to the particulars.

Hyundai promises a wide stance with flared fenders, lightweight wheels and a large spoiler. The moodily lit photos only hint at that first item but show the spoiler in all its gooseneck glory. As for the wheels, it appears they will have N center caps and be capable of spinning at high enough speeds to generate tire smoke. Based on the Ioniq 5 N, we expect the Ioniq 6 N to look plenty dramatic even when well lit, as the N hatchback’s flared fenders make it 2 inches wider than its regular sibling while its rear diffuser stretches it 3 inches longer.

Electric Twist

Power for that smoke machine should come from two electric motors, one driving each axle. As the non-N Ioniq 6 with all-wheel drive makes the same 320 horsepower and 446 pounds-feet of torque as the regular Ioniq 5, we don’t expect the Ioniq 6 N to make any less power than its hatchback counterpart’s maximum of 641 horsepower and 568 pounds-feet.

But it might. Hyundai says the “Ioniq 5 N set the benchmark — and now Ioniq 6 N aims to build on that success.” We’ll know more soon; the newest electric N performance model will debut next month at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England. Stay tuned.
