Buick’s new Enspire concept is an all-electric SUV with beautiful lines and the stats to give shoppers considering the Tesla Model X pause — that is, if Buick ever decided to build the Enspire.

According to Buick, the Enspire boasts 370 miles of range and a zero-to-60-mph time of 4 seconds. The Model X, depending on configuration, has a maximum range of 289 miles and a zero-to-60-mph time as low as 2.9 seconds. The Enspire also seems to have rear doors that open in the usual fashion instead of the Model X’s “falcon” doors, which make it look like it’s about to deliver a sweet crane kick to some blond bro’s face.
The Enspire concept also boasts both fast and wireless charging, and it can get 80 percent of its charge in as little as 40 minutes, according to Buick. Tesla claims charge times of 30 minutes to gain 170 miles of range — a little less than 60 percent of its total range.
Why is the name a misspelling of the word “inspire”? Because all the other Buick SUVs are “En-something“: Encore, Envision, Enclave. Some other possibilities that are correctly spelled include:
Enough! (my personal preference)
Buick is calling the Enspire’s debut at the upcoming 2018 Beijing Motor Show a “global debut,” but I’ll eat a very fine hat if it ever becomes a production car in the U.S. Chinese shoppers might be comparing Teslas and Buicks, but the Venn diagram of American shoppers looking at Buicks and shoppers looking at Teslas are two separate circles. Buick also has a track record of creating beautiful concept cars that never make it even close to production.
We’ll wait for more images and details when the Beijing Motor Show begins on April 25.
