Combining state-of-the-art tech with traditional luxury amenities and ambiance, the redesigned 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the very definition of a modern mid-size luxury sedan. The update brought more tech and features, along with a power boost thanks to a 48-volt mild-hybrid system augmenting the sedan’s turbocharged four-cylinder powertrain. For 2025, the E-Class gets a new rear-wheel-drive version of the E350, a hybrid AMG variant and minor updates.

The latest E-Class’ dashboard is dominated by a vast expanse of digital displays stretching the width of the cabin, seamlessly blending the digital instrument panel and infotainment screens. There’s also plenty of real wood, aluminum and other upscale-looking materials, such as available plush leather. The overall package keeps the E-Class competitive in a crowded field of worthy competitors, including those from Audi, BMW, Genesis and Lexus.

Cars.com’s Conner Golden spent a week with the latest incarnation of the E350 and liked most of what he found, though there were a couple of exceptions. Tap the link above for his expert review; for a quicker rundown, keep reading for five things we like about the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and two things we do not.

Things We Like

1. Slick Tech

The E-Class’ dashboard is dominated by a slick curved glass panel that includes a high-resolution 14.4-inch infotainment touchscreen in the center of the dash and a 12.3-inch configurable digital instrument display. Both offer sharp resolution, vivid graphics and quick response times. If that’s not enough tech, a second 12.3-inch touchscreen is optional to help keep the front passenger entertained on the road without distracting the driver. That results in the displays stretching a total of a substantial 39 inches.

2. Traditional Appeal

Beyond its impressive tech features and dramatic screen graphics, the E-Class delivers with an opulent interior packed with quality materials for buyers looking for a modern take on a traditional luxury experience. The cabin is lined with a variety of textures, including gloss-black plastic, frosted aluminum and open-pore wood surfaces. Our test car included heated front seats upholstered in rich leather, while options include a heated center armrest and a cabin fragrance system.

3. Luxurious Ride

With its optional adaptive air suspension and rear-wheel steering, our test car proved to be comfortable and easy to handle, delivering a smooth, controlled ride and soaking up bumps and potholes with ease. Neither too stiff in Sport mode nor too soft in Comfort mode, handling is confident and absorbent over any surface.

4. Smooth Powertrain

A new 48-volt mild-hybrid system gives the E350’s turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine a power boost, bringing total output to 255 horsepower and 295 pounds-feet of torque. Matched with a nine-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive, the E350’s power is more than adequate for effortless merging and passing, and acceleration is smooth and seamless.

5. Yet More Tech

If 39 inches of screen real estate and a heated center armrest aren’t enough for you, other boffo E-Class features include ventilated and massaging front seats, configurable mood lighting and motorized pop-out door handles. Opt for the top Pinnacle trim and you can turn your E350 into a rolling concert hall with a Burmester 4D sound system, Dolby Atmos and Apple Spatial Audio.

Things We Don’t Like

1. Touchy Brakes

As smooth and controlled as the Mercedes feels overall, its touchy brakes can take away from the effortless and isolating driving experience. The brake pedal requires a gentle foot for smooth stops, making it all too easy to startle otherwise coddled passengers. Even with practice, we found the pedal response hard to get used to.

2. Watch Those Options

As is often the case with Mercedes-Benz and some other luxury brands, buyers would be wise to be careful with the E350’s extensive option list. A base 2025 model starts at a relatively modest $63,600 (prices include destination), and our loaded test car came to about $82,000. That’s not to say it’s not worth every dime, it just means be careful when you sit down with your wish list.
