The latest major recall to affect Volkswagen and luxury brand Audi — following two last month — involves a faulty tire pressure monitoring system that may not detect loss of air. Approximately 224,700 vehicles are affected.

Affected vehicles for Audi include model-year 2019-20 A3 sedans and 2019 Q3 SUVs. For VW, the recall involves model-year 2019 Golf Alltrack and Golf SportWagen wagons, Golf R hatchbacks, and Tiguan SUVs; model-year 2019-20 Golf hatchbacks and Jetta sedans; model-year 2019-21 Atlas SUVs; and model-year 2020-21 Atlas Cross Sport SUVs. The tire pressure monitoring system in these vehicles may not detect when air pressure has been lost in all four tires in adequate time, increasing the risk of a crash; if pressure is lost in less than all four tires, the system should work as intended.

Dealers will update the tire pressure monitoring system for free. Audi and VW will begin notifying owners Dec. 30; those with further questions can contact VW at 800-893-5298, Audi at 800-253-2834, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
