Earlier this week, Stellantis recalled nearly 40,000 vehicles over airbags that may not deploy due to a faulty steering column. This time, the automaker is recalling nearly 285,000 vehicles over a different airbag issue: exploding airbags.
Affected vehicles include model-year 2018-21 Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger sedans. The issue involves the left and right side-curtain airbag inflators, which may rupture and send metal fragments into the vehicle’s cabin, increasing the risk of serious injury to occupants.
To resolve the issue, dealers will replace both side-curtain airbags for free. Owner notification letters are expected to be sent May 3, but those with further questions can contact Chrysler and Dodge parent automaker Stellantis at 800-853-1403 (Stellantis’ number for this recall is 19B), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
