Ford claims that its revamped quartet of powertrains for the F-150 is the most extensive makeover in the model’s 62-year history. With such a critical update to America’s most popular vehicle, it’s important that we get our hands on every variation to see what has changed and who would benefit from which drivetrain/powertrain combos. That’s exactly what PickupTrucks.com’s Mike Levine has been doing for the past few months. He’s tested the V-6 models and the 6.2-liter V-8, and now it’s the 5.0-liter V-8’s turn.
During the 800-mile trek — 622 miles with a 9,000-pound trailer hitched to the rear — Levine found the truck to be a comfortable, relatively easy-to-manage hauling operative as well as a good unloaded driver. Still, fuel economy could have been better, and you can’t get a cool 5.0 badge, either. To learn more, check out the full road test at PickupTrucks.com.
