Toyota Adds 43,000 Vehicles to Airbag Recall
In July, Toyota issued a recall for approximately 110,000 vehicles over an issue that could prevent the airbags from deploying in the event of a crash. The automaker is now expanding that recall to include an additional 43,000 vehicles, bringing the total number to approximately 153,000.

Affected vehicles include model-year 2023 Corolla sedans; Corolla Cross, Corolla Cross Hybrid, Highlander and Highlander Hybrid SUVs; and Tacoma pickup trucks. (Model-year 2023 RX and RX hybrid SUVs and 2024 NX and NX hybrid SUVs from Toyota luxury brand Lexus are also affected, but they aren’t included in the expansion.) The issue involves the spiral cable assembly located in the steering column, which may lose electrical connection with the driver’s airbag and prevent the airbag from deploying, increasing the risk of injury to the driver.
To fix the issue, Toyota and Lexus dealers will inspect the serial number on the spiral cable and replace it, as necessary, for free. Owners of vehicles from the original recall were notified in September; newly affected owners will be notified by early November.
