Still crisp from a redesign for the 2023 model year, the 2025 Honda Pilot once more carries over from the outgoing model year aside from some trim reorganization and pricing changes.

What’s New for 2025?

Other than revised pricing, the elimination of the base LX trim and a new range-topping Black Edition trim, the Pilot carries over mostly untouched for the 2025 model year. That’s fine by us, as Honda’s three-row SUV is still fairly fresh from its makeover a couple of model years ago.

Trim Levels and Pricing

With the LX gone, the previously second-most affordable Sport now serves as the base trim. This makes the 2025 Pilot Sport an effective $3,110 boost over the 2024 Pilot LX. From there, the EX-L, TrailSport, Touring and Elite trims carry over, and the Black Edition sits at the top of the range. Prices are increased for the new model year (noted in parentheses) and include a $1,395 destination charge. All-wheel drive is available on the Sport, EX-L and Touring for $2,100 extra and standard on the TrailSport, Elite and Black Edition.

  • Sport: $41,595 (up $600)
  • EX-L: $44,895 (up $1,100)
  • Touring: $48,895 (up $600)
  • TrailSport: $50,795 (up $500)
  • Elite: $54,475 (up $600)
  • Black Edition: $55,975 (new)

Crystal Black Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic and Obsidian Blue Pearl are available for no extra charge on all trims, with the no-charge Modern Steel Metallic offered on every trim save the Sport and TrailSport. Premium paint, including Platinum White Pearl and Radiant Red Metallic II, will add $455 regardless of trim. Sonic Gray Pearl is a premium paint available on all trims save the EX-L, and the TrailSport offers the exclusive Diffused Sky Blue Pearl premium paint.

Powertrain Specs and MPG

A 3.5-liter normally aspirated V-6 engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission is the only powertrain available for the 2025 Honda Pilot; it makes 285 horsepower and 262 pounds-feet of torque regardless of whether it’s front- or all-wheel drive.

EPA-rated fuel economy depends on the trim. For the FWD Sport, EX-L and Touring trims, expect 19/27/22 mpg city/highway/combined; those figures drop to 19/25/21 mpg with AWD. The TrailSport’s blocky all-terrain tires cut EPA ratings further, with the off-road variant clocking 18/23/20 mpg.

FWD 2025 Honda Pilots are rated to tow up to 3,500 pounds, with AWD variants capable of up to 5,000 pounds.

Tech Features

All 2025 Pilots come standard with expected niceties like three-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry, push-button and remote start, and auto up-down windows. On the tech front, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster is standard, with a 10.2-inch display standard on Elite and Black Edition trims. Only the Elite and Black Edition come with a head-up display.

A 7-inch touchscreen handles infotainment functions on the Sport, jumping to 9 inches on every other trim. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is wireless on all trims except the Sport, where it’s wired. Speaking of connectivity, all 2025 Pilots pack one USB-A and one USB-C port for front occupants, with two USB-C ports for the second row. Third-row passengers enjoy two USB-C ports on every trim above the Sport. Want wireless device charging? Go for any trim other than that one.

The theme continues for sound systems, with the Sport’s seven-speaker setup the least powerful. The EX-L and TrailSport bump this to nine speakers, and the Touring, Elite and Black Edition arrive with a 12-speaker Bose sound system standard.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

With few exceptions, all 2025 Honda Pilots come with the comprehensive Honda Sensing active-safety suite as standard. This includes forward collision warning and emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-centering steering, adaptive cruise control, traffic-sign recognition, traffic-jam assist, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, driver attention warning and automatic high-beams. All trims above the Sport add low-speed braking control and front and rear parking sensors.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety last tested the Pilot for 2024, but the SUV earns the vaunted Top Safety Pick+ award for 2025 with top marks in all categories save the agency’s updated moderate front overlap crash test, where it scored an acceptable rating. Our Car Seat Check of the 2024 Pilot rewarded the three-row with A grades in all but the third-row, forward-facing convertible (B) and third-row booster seat setup (C).

Should You Buy a 2024 or 2025 Honda Pilot?

If affordability — and not available features — is your main concern, it’d be wise to seek out a 2024 model as the now-discontinued LX is a good sub-$40,000 entry into Honda’s three-row flagship. If plentiful standard features and the additional equipment and style of the new Black Edition are more to your taste, hop in the latest and greatest 2025 Pilot that fits your budget. Either way, the identical powertrain setup and overall design mean it’s all what you prefer (and what’s more available in your area).
