Pricing

I spoke with Noonya and was ready to drive out and purchase a used TL. Before setting out I reviewed the car one last time on there website. An option to Instant message came up so I thought for fun I would ask Ted (the guy in the IM) for a better price. He said the best they could do was thousands more than I discussed on the phone minutes earlier. I asked why he was quoting me a price even higher than the cars.com advertised price. HE said he was certain it would sell at the higher price he quoted. We made sure we were speak about the EXACT car. Then he said Noonya just advised him the car is now sold. Watch out for TED and his PRICES.

We really enjoyed the experience at McGrath. Matthew goes out of his way to help his customers with their purchase and I am confident he will continue to even after they have our business. I think we got a good price on the car we purchased, but some of the other options were higher than some other offers we had for similar cars.

Brought my car in because it needed a battery. Abraham advised me that it also needed wires, distributor cap and rotor. They also said it need front brakes and quoted me $1,700 for the front brake job. Awestruck by their price, I asked why it was so much. They told me that because my car was a 1999 2.3 CL, the rotors were fixed to the hub and bearings and required several hours of labor to remove the entire assembly. I asked them if they were sure of that because it did not make sense to me. They said "absolutely." So, i called a local mechanic and asked him to quote me on brakes. He said he could do it for $350.00. I asked if the hub and bearings are fixed as the dealer mentioned and he said no. So, I called Abraham back and told him what the local mechanic had said. Abraham said that the mechanic, "Doesn't know what he's talking about." He further said that they work on these all the time and assured me that they were right. I gave Abraham permission to do the batter, wires and distributor cap. I then took my car to another Acura dealer (Pauly) and they offered to look at it for free. ( McGrath charges you a fee just to look at the car!). They confirmed that they could do the brakes without removing the entire assembly and they were shocked that McGrath made such a claim. I had Pauly do the brakes and thought I would be done with McGrath forever. However, a month later my car was in my driveway and failed to start. I called the motor club and they came out to jump the car. When I popped the hood, we both looked at the battery and it was the original battery that was all coroded. So, McGrath never replaced the battery! I still had the receipt so as soon as the car was running I drove right over to McGrath and demanded to see their General Manager. While waiting for the GM, Abraham came by and tried to tell me that the corroded batter in my car must not be the original one. The GM offered to replace the battery on the spot, which I declined as I had an appoinment I needed to get to. Instead, he had his service department manager call me the following Monday and offered to pick-up my car, replace the battery and bring it back to me. When I spoke to him I also asked him why the quoted me $1,700 for a brake job and told him what others had said. He admitted to me that the inforomation I was given (by Abraham) was incorrect and I should never have been quoted that price. I will never go back to these guys for service and strongly advise against anyone taking their car there. If you do take your car there, check with other dealers for price comparisons and then make sure that they actually do the work!!!!

TERRIBLE sales practice. BAD for out of state buyers and the only thing they seem to care about is getting their sales in before the end of the month. They actually told me that........because I was an out of state buyer and couldn't get there, that they were going to attempt to sell the car and if it didn't sell...then I could buy it. This was even when I was going to make a down payment. GO ELSEWHERE Only interested in getting their sales quota in by end of month.

The only thing I believe is wrong was having to pay sales tax on a incentive of $2500.00 that the dealer gets from Acura, which cost me an extra $183.00. It may not sound like a big deal but this kind of untransparent paper work adds up at the end of the year!! It's wrong and they should at least have these numbers show up in the paper work, they don't! If you guys want to have a customer relationship after the sale then don't pull this tax crap and blame it on the state. I think this money went back into somebody's pocket at McGrath anyway because the state form was done properly and the invoice was not! My salesman Matt has nothing to do with this, he gets a score of all 10's and was a big help, he also knows his product!, Thank's Matt

Purchased a 2007 Acura TL Type S on November 1, waited to write this review until everything was settled, which it is not. My frustration with their no response attitude is why this review is so long. I warn everybody that can't drive to the dealership after work to stay away. Once they get your money they will pretend to not know you and ignore you at every chance because your only contact is over the phone or through email. If it was only one person, it would be different. But when multiple people at all management levels do the same thing, it's the culture there. Pricing and service is no different from the other dealerships around Chicago I went to. Most of my gripe with them is over paperwork. I can't imagine how horrible it would be to work with them if there was a problem with the car. While looking for the car, the dealership was great. Emails and calls were answered within the hour. After the price was agreed upon, then everything changed. Was recommended to do the financing through Acura Financial because the car was a certified pre-owned and Acura was offering the same rate as a pre-approved loan from a local credit union. Went forward with Acura Financial. An hour later, since their "super old system" takes that long to enter in information; finally was told that I could only be offered a loan with a much higher rate from Chase or Bank America because my car was too old and that I was lying about my loan because nobody offers that rate on a 2007 car. I then pointed to the screen that showed the Acura website with the same rate on ALL certified pre-owned cars. By that time my credit union was closed and the deal couldn't be done until the next day through them. At this point I was ready to walk away, since it is a 3hr drive back home and I was not coming back after this. Then magically I was approved by Acura Financial. Found out later through my credit report that they had been shopping me to many banks that probably gave them a kick back instead of going through Acura like we agreed on. Final detail on the car was poorly done. They didn't program one of the key remotes to the car, they fixed that but in that process they deleted the other one. Noticed the next day that instead of using a solution to remove the parking stickers and residue (front bottom of windshield) they took an abrasive pad to it and ended up leaving a large scratched spot. Screws for the front license plate bracket were too long and left small holes from the tips into the front bumper. In my haste in leaving the dealership to get back home, I left some of my paperwork there. Called the salesperson (Ted) the next day to have them mailed to me, or get a copy of theirs and send that to me. What would seem like a 10min job turned into a 1 month long job. Took multiple attempts and many times of Ted telling me that he would get to it right away or that I would receive the documents that night. Finally I was put in touch with Sam who got them to me within the hour. How long and how much work is it to go grab my file, copy the papers in there, then email them to me? Because Acura uses a 3rd party to register the vehicle with the DMV, I was given a 1 month temp permit. As the end of the month neared and I didn't receive my plates from the DMV yet, I asked Carl to print me another temp permit like he stated he would if I needed it. To no surprise I haven't heard back from Carl about this yet. There seems to have been a mix up between the DMV and the company they used to register my car as I am now missing some paperwork, mainly the Certificate of Ownership and will never get it because the DMV can only make one. Called the dealership to try and help resolve where the documents are, only to be hung up on and not having my calls returned from Rob the business manager.

Update to "Internet Buyer Beware"

I have a good update for my original issue (see review below). After purchasing my used Audi A6, I flew to Chicago to finalize the purchase of the car. There was what appeared to be a minor issue during our test drive that I pointed out and thought was really a non-issue. It turned out to be an expensive repair, but I only learned of its extent when I took it to a dealer near my home (about 1000 miles away). After a number of attempts to contact them, I was provided the contact information for the service manager. After a brief phone conversation, I was told to send a copy of the bill for the repair. Shortly thereafter, I received a call from the service manager indicating that the repair would be paid in full. While I would like to think this is the way most dealers treat their customers, I was very pleasantly surprised that this is how things turned out. Simply put, it would have been easy to ignore me due to the distance between us, but they made it right. That is why it was important to post this update to my original review.
