    We were trying to buy a truck that Fox had found at a different dealership. We put a deposit on it as they assured us that they had "procured" it for... us. They had to cancel our deal the next day because the other dealer sold the truck out from under them (so it wasn't procured as they had promised.) 3 weeks later, our $500 deposit still wasn't refunded, as our salesperson had promised. I had to call to get it done.

    You often hear stories of bad, overpriced service at dealerships, but I don’t think that is always the case. I’ve mostly had good experiences, especially... with Subaru dealers. But Fox Subaru fits the stereotype of the corrupt service department perfectly. Last Thursday, my son was three hours from home when his 98 Forester overheated. We had it towed to Fox, and even though their mechanics were on duty for another two hours, he was told that no mechanic could even look at it until the next day (Friday). No big deal because it turned out to be a blown radiator, so they couldn’t have fixed it that night, but had it been minor issue (eg., a leaking hose), it would have been nice had they taken the 5 minutes necessary to diagnose it and get him on his way. As it turns out, they didn’t even look at it until Monday. One of their staff called and said that it would be $800, which included labor, to replace the radiator with an original Subaru radiator. When I noted that a 20-year-old car didn’t need a factory radiator, she agreed to try to find a post-market radiator. She didn’t call me back for 2 hours, so I found one on Amazon for $100, called her and we agreed that I would buy it and have it shipped to them. They got it Wednesday, installed it Thursday, and called to tell us that it would be $660 for labor and parts (when I asked, the Asst. Service manager I spoke with didn’t know which parts the numbers on the invoice referred to). This seemed like a LOT, so I called my local Subaru dealer (Blaise Alexander in Williamsport, PA), who quoted me $400 parts and labor for a non-factory radiator (they said it was a 1.5 hour job). Likewise, a Google search reveals that 1.5 hours is typical, with a total cost of $300-500 (parts and labor). When I got to Fox on Friday, the bill was $666, $166 parts and $500 labor (4 hours). I asked about the charges, especially the labor, and the Asst. Service manager insisted that it was necessary to replace hoses, belts, and the thermostat. None of this “service” was requested or authorized by me, and in any case, there’s no reason why it should have taken them 2.5 hours longer than any other dealership. He offered me 10% ($66) off, and when I asked to speak to the Service Manager, he disappeared for about 15 minutes and then came back offering to “meet me halfway” by cutting the labor charge to $324 (total bill $502). I decided that this was the best I could do and paid the bill. Reading their online reviews (which I wish I had done before I had the car towed there), makes it clear that my experience isn’t unusual. No doubt they will comment on this review and ask me to call and give them a chance to make my experience more satisfactory. But I gave them this opportunity and the Service Manager refused to meet with me. You can dismiss this review if you like, but if I needed service in Auburn, I would push my car to another shop before I’d take it to Fox.

    I recently bought a used vehicle from this dealer. The rep I worked with flat out lied about the work that was to be done to the vehicle prior to buying... it. Not even a month after I purchased the car, the paint is bubbling where the salesman told me they would do a professional job fixing the spot. After closer inspection under the inner hatch panel, I saw that the professional job consisted of body filler and paint. Seriously disappointed in trusting this group to fix the spot properly. I'll never be back and I encourage anyone reading to use a different dealer.

    Two years ago, Fox Subaru decided to replace all our brakes. This week, the brakes froze and ruined the rotors. My expert reported that Fox had failed... to lubricate the caliper pins and where pads slide in the brackets. When I called Fox this morning I was told: of course there was no warranty. So 7,000 miles after new brakes, I have a new set of brakes from a reliable shop. Expensive!!

    Fox Subaru in Auburn, NY is adamant that there’s no way for a brake pad to fall completely out. They say that it’s impossible to drive a car without a... brake pad. They also say that there’s no way that they would let a vehicle leave without a brake pad. That’s weird since nobody has ever worked on the brakes since I’ve owned it yet it is still missing. The only person that’s even touched the tires is me when I change my wife’s summer tires and rims for winter tires and rims. So I guess Fox Subaru thinks that I’m a liar and I’m just trying to get something out of the dealership. Surely won’t be going back there for our next Subaru.

    2009 Toyota Avalon I purchased and damage was done between the time I made the deal and picking up the car. The Sirius antenna was not mounted at pickup... and caused paint damage. The window trim was damaged. On top of all of that the gas light came on within a mile of the dealership. I was confidently told the car would be 100% ready when I picked it up. It was not. I contacted my salesperson Paul Kelly and was told nothing can be done. Terrible!!!
