Bought my Escape in January of 2018. Have had it serviced twice so far. An oil change and an inspection/emissions appt. So far everything is good. They... get me in when it's convenient for me and it's done on time. The buying process was quick and painless as well. Will continue to have it serviced at Bob Ruth.

To discuss your transaction, you sit in an open room with music blaring so loud you can’t hear yourself think. Children were there crying and there’s... no place to make a phone call. No privacy at all! They offer trade-in values lower than KBB. For a CASH transaction, it took OVER 3-1/2 hours before the paperwork was ready. When I questioned Randy Johnson on some of the figures, his response was, “well if you don’t like the way it's being done, don't buy the car". They have a “company policy" that does not allow out-of-state customers to pay the PA sales tax and register the vehicle/pay the sales tax difference in their home state themselves. Instead, they say it’s a service they provide to their customers to file all of the paperwork. This "service" provided by RegUSA (a third party who most likely gives Bob Ruth a kickback for sending business their way) costs the customer $116. Another $141 is charged for the dealership’s Documentary Fee. If you're from out of state, they overcharge you for DMV filing fees and an additional $30 for a temporary paper PA plate (I have never been charged for temporary plates by a dealership in the past). I was charged $425.50 total in fees when the NY fees amount to $70. The NY DMV talked with Randy Johnson on the phone about the fees while I was in their office; however, he denied to me every having talked to anyone. He will not provide me with the final statement from RegUSA showing what their actual DMV fees were. He said I’d get a refund if I overpaid. He is very arrogant and condescending. I tried calling the number they give for customer concerns but no one answered after being transferred to that department. I’ve sent e-mails to Mr. Johnson, none of which have been acknowledged. As a senior citizen on a fixed income, I watch expenses very closely and dislike being taken advantage of. In light of this most unpleasant, extremely stressful experience, I cannot recommend this dealership to others. I will point out, however, that their salesman Brian Crespo was very attentive throughout this entire ordeal; however, his hands are virtually tied with regard to trade-in values and “company policies".

Unfortunately, when it comes to fees (which do vary from State to State) that is something that is out of our control. We are a family owned business, so do we welcome customers and their children to come in when purchasing a vehicle. We understand your frustration and can completely empathize when it comes to wait times for paperwork, being charged fees, and also being on a fixed income. Our Finance and Sales teams work very hard in ensuring they complete the process for our customers, and in some instances when paperwork involves out of state transfers/tags/etc, the paperwork becomes more involved- which therefore will increase the time at the dealership. In Summer 2018 I purchased a 2006 Ford Taurus because the place was highly recommended by a family member. The car was a little more expensive than I was... looking for, but I was willing to pay more because they assured me that they had inspected it THAT WEEK. Higher price in exchange for no issues seemed like a fair deal to me. On cars this old, they will not supply any kind of warranty. Again, because I had been promised that it had just been inspected, I accepted this. Less than a month later, my car wouldn't start and was burning through oil and gas. Needs a new Mass Airflow Sensor. It was expensive to replace, and I wasn't happy about it. I called in and they told me that since I bought it without a warranty, it was my problem. I also noticed that the windshield wipers jumped and clearly had not been replaced anytime recently, and as soon as I drove off the lot, one of the back windows stopped opening. A few weeks after that, my exhaust system completely fell off. The catalytic converter needed replaced. I had to get my car towed. I called and complained and they said that they sell these without warranties because they "don't know what the driver will do" and "don't have a crystal ball" (essentially blaming me for a mechanical failure that almost certainly formed prior to my owning the car). Five days after replacing that, the check engine light came on, the car was shaking when idling, and it could barely accelerate. Turns out the last person who owned it replaced the ignition wire improperly and never removed the old one, causing the new one to be misplaced and melt. This certainly should have been seen during an inspection. I don't know anything about cars and once I looked into the engine myself I could tell that there wasn't supposed to be a cut wire just hanging out in there. Went to a new mechanic, got that fixed. Six days after that repair, my check engine light is on again. For anyone keeping track, that is: two major repairs, one minor repair, one worn out part, one mysteriously not working part, and an extra check engine light. I am not convinced they inspected the car at all, let alone as thoroughly as they claimed. And their salespeople (they don't have a customer service department as far as I can tell, because I just keep being transferred to sales) don't care. They got their sale, customer happiness and safety be darned.
We understand your frustration and your situation. However, the vehicle was purchased "As-Is" as stated within the paperwork. When a vehic...le is sold "As-Is", it is being sold without warranty coverage. Previously, our Sales Manager, Keith, had spoken with you regarding your concerns.
