Buying a used car has a long earned reputation of not so
Buying a used car has a long earned reputation of not so much integrity, but rather cut throat tactics. I can say this about Bill Utter Ford used car dealership, I went in earlier last week shopping. I did not fill out anything, but checked a couple of cars and met one salesperson (Phil Tysinger) briefly. He gave me his card. Well, I went back in yesterday and he happened to be out getting lunch. I went ahead and asked another salesman (Kenny Morgan) to help since I really had not started any part of the process, so he got me the keys to one vehicle I was interested in and I took it for a little test drive around the parking lot (he told me to take it wherever, but the ride over the speed bumps was what I needed to know). Anyways, when I parked the car and went back in, Phil was back. Kenny met me outside and let me know that I should continue with Phil since he was my first contact. He was very polite about it and said if I wanted, I could stay with him, but it would cause a little tension. I could not have been more impressed with that integrity! The car I was first interested in, it was nice, but there were a few things I did not like about it (Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek), like the shifter. While waiting, I spotted the expedition on the website and asked Phil to let me check this one out. When he pulled it up, it immediately caught my eye. I ended up taking that one on a ride on the freeway for a short ride. The controls were not distracting, the shifter is weird, but clear to use, getting in and out was comfortable, the seats were super comfortable, it has heated and cooled seats, heated steering wheel and a good towing package. While the fuel economy is not great, it is fine since we don't drive much anyway. Anyway, that is the car I did buy, but back to the dealership and it's integrity between salesmen. Both of them struck me as good folks who know the reputation of used car salesmen and actually did their best to make that better. I did check KBB and I got the car at just under trade in value. It's not a repo, it was not in an accident, and was bought new in a city pretty close in Texas (repos usually are sold out of state to avoid precious owner issue). They filled the gas tank which is pretty big, I did not ask them to fill the back end with eggs LOL, but the dealership was pretty darned busy, and they still made sure to take all the time needed
