Careful they will rip you off

Worst dealer that I came across. They will rip you off with buying, hidden fees and the factory warranty. I don’t recommend this car dealer.

Online prices are not as they seem.

Was searching for a specific vehicle and found a handful on the web. STG had two of them at a similar price. However when I contacted the dealership and got a price quote it included $1800 in additional charges for a gps system, tinted windows and clear door guards. This was listed on the site in the "small print" ALL PRICES ARE FINAL PLUS ANY AFTERMARKET WHEELS, LIFT KITS, LOWERING KITS, TINT, ACCESSORIES, PRE-INSTALLED THEFT DETERRENT DEVICES, $395 3M DOOR GUARD, DOC PREP FEES, SMOG FEE, SALES TAX, DMV LICENSE FEES, REGISTRATION FEES, SMOG CERTIFICATE FEE...CALL DEALER FOR MORE INFORMATION AND DETAILS. While I understand that STG cannot quote every cost (especially sales tax and registration). I do feel the omission of $1400 of know costs in the list price is very misleading. Despite this, I did enter into negotiations with STG for the vehicle. When we started I asked if there was any room to move on the price and was told they could do "about $500". After a couple rounds of back and forth I was given a final take it or leave it proposal. That was $340 less than the original offer they had made. I will say the original price (not including the extras added on) was an excellent price. And still a good price with the added costs. But I felt mislead and that they were not negotiating in good faith. I would have been fine with things had they simply told me upfront this is our lowest price and not lead me to believe that could negotiate a lower price. Eric A

I visited STG Auto in Montclair on the 19th and 21st of...

I visited STG Auto in Montclair on the 19th and 21st of May, 2020 to see a specific advertised vehicle. The first day it was not available to see. The second day I test drove the vehicle and entered into negotiations regarding price. After an hour or two of discussions we agreed on a price and financing terms. I signed the cost breakdown and was told by sales and financing staff that it was what they needed to confirm the deal. Unfortunately, my wife was unavailable due to a family emergency so the dealer asked if I would put down a refundable $500 deposit to hold the vehicle until the next day to allow my wife time to come see the car and finish the transaction. They said the deposit kept the car with us but that we would have the option to back out with the deposit if my wife did not like the vehicle. Early the next morning on May 22, my wife and I were about to drive back to the dealer so she could see the car and we could finish the deal. I had told her I was confident she would like it and just needed her to finish the deal we held with the deposit. That is when the dealer called to inform us that the car we wanted was sold to another party the night before, hours after we had put down the $500 deposit. The salesman apologized and tried to offer other options but I told him I no had no interest in other vehicles they had and no longer trusted them to honor their agreements. He said they were under no signed legal obligation to hold the vehicle since the bill of sale had not been signed. However, the whole reason for the deposit paid on the 21st at around 1 PM was to hold the car until my wife could come with me to finish the paperwork. We asked to speak to the general manager and after about 30 minutes of being told we’d be transferred, we were told he was busy but would call us back. We were told while holding on the phone that only he and the owner could authorize the deal, which was different than what I’d been told the previous day. It has now been 1 week and we still have not been called back by the manager. I talked to the salesman again on May 24 to follow up and was again told we’d be called back. I was also told that our deposit would take 3 to 5 business days to refund. It has now been 7 calendar days and our money has not been refunded. At this point, I would not only like our deposit refunded immediately. I was able to find another similar vehicle but it cost me extra time and the price tag was higher. Based on the dealer’s assertions and the cash deposit we had processed, I believe the dealer acted poorly at least and at worst essentially stole my property and sold it for what we were told was a higher profit for them (due to add-ons the other party wanted that we did not).

The staff is really helpful here and really nice! Went in just to take a look around at their inventory and got attended by a young gentlemen by the name of Carlos. Really helpful guy and also the rest of the crew was real nice and not pushy like some other dealers.
