I recently visited Pride Kia Motors in Lynn to purchase a car as my lease was ending, and I walked in feeling really nervous about my options. My credit wasnโ€™t great, and my down payment was low, so I didnโ€™t believe I would be able to get a new car. Upon arrival, I met Phil, who was extremely friendly and took the time to discuss my options. I ended up opting for a five-seater, which, although not my first choice, made me happy to get a new vehicle. However, Phil surprised me when he convinced me to go for the Kia EV6 electric car. Initially, I was hesitant, but he pointed out the cost savings on gas and the long driving range compared to traditional cars. I was sold on the multiple charging ports and the convenience of charging at home. But since I didnโ€™t think I could charge it at home, when he assured me that I could, I felt reassured and decided to proceed. I ordered a charger for home right away. Once I got home and plugged it in, I encountered my first issue: my lights went out multiple times while charging. The car's system indicated it would take 72 hours, while Phil had mentioned it would only take 5 to 9 hours to charge. Frustration began to set in. The situation worsened when I drove to New Hampshire to visit family after charging my car. Unfortunately, the car died and I was left stranded for hours in freezing temperatures while attempting to charge it at a station. I spent six hours trying to get enough power to return home, feeling utterly helpless and freezing in the cold. I contemplated returning the car to the dealership, but they informed me that I couldnโ€™t do so because of my credit issuesโ€”even though they were the ones who impacted my credit by running it. Even after speaking with a staff member who suggested purchasing another charger, I did so out of necessity, but the same issue occurred: every time I plugged the car into my home, the lights would go out again. Now, I face the challenge of having to charge the car every four days, as a full charge only provides around 300 miles. Each time I charge it, I'm spending about $30, which is far more than I ever spent on gas with my previous vehicle. The inconvenience is taxing, especially during the winter monthsโ€” I have kids to take to school and work to get to, but I often find myself walking in the cold because I canโ€™t rely on my car. Additionally, the design of the EV6 has been problematic; during snowy weather, the flat doors become very difficult to open. In summary, I regret choosing the Kia EV6, especially without a home charging installation. If you have kids and donโ€™t own a house with the ability to install a portable charger, I recommend reconsidering this vehicle. Itโ€™s been a frustrating experience overall, and I wish I had made a different decision. What frustrates me the most is when Phil finished with the sale and I was taken to the office. I asked the manager if he thought it was a good idea for me to get an electric car, considering I have kids and had never even considered one before. He confidently assured me, "Yes, it's great! You can charge it at home, and you donโ€™t have to go anywhere." But now, Iโ€™m left suffering through this experience. I have a car I donโ€™t want and can't return it because they flat-out refused. It honestly feels like they just wanted to get rid of that EV6 and found someone vulnerable to push it onto. I trusted their expertise, and it feels like I was taken advantage of in the process. I never even received my lease on hand , just signed it and never received a copy.
