Sold my son lemon. Within 60days the car needed a new timing belt. Within 30 days the car needed breaks. Car didnt come with the key for the locks on the tire. They did nothing but took advantage of a young man buying his first car.

Good Car with Great Service

I purchased a 2006 Toyota Highlander from Midway Auto Group in early February 2019. I am writing this review after owning the car for one year. After buying the car, it had a few problems. Some cylinders misfires were due to a bad ignition coil for one of the cylinders and some other cylinder misfires were due to broken plastic lock tabs for the electrical connectors to the other cylinders’ ignition coils (a class problem on some of the Toyota V6’s). There was an aftermarket hidden GPS tracking device installed by previous owner which was draining the battery every two weeks. The ventilation mode actuator did not work well and made an intermittent whirring and clicking noise. The refrigerant charge was rather low and the AC did not cool the car well on hot days. I had my shop repair all these items. Since then the car has been problem free. The interior and exterior were so clean and nice when I bought the car. I also installed new struts all around. It is such a nice and reliable car to drive now. Elizabeth and Chris recommended to me when buying the car to get the warranty but I was being inflexible on the price I wanted to pay and bought the car with no warranty. Had I heeded their advice I think a lot of the problems would have been covered by the warranty. Many were intermittent type problems and I did not necessarily expect Midway Auto Group to know about them all. When you are buying cars in the age range of 10 years you should get a warranty. The Highlander had 132000 miles when I bought it and the Carfax had no record of the timing belt being changed. It had been changed, but the repair shops of the Capital Heights MD (Midas, Pep Boys) area that did the work for the previous owner made poorly detailed entries of maintenance done and refused to tell me that whether or not it had been done, even though they had records in their systems, citing privacy concerns. I explained to them that the car had been sold at auction to Midway Auto Group and I now had proof of ownership they still refused. The Toyota dealer in Capitol Heights was willing to share information about all maintenance done there, but they had not done the timing belt service. I ended getting it replaced for peace of mind, which was OK since the water pump was beginning to leak slightly. A word about the quality of service provided by Elizabeth Meads: Elizabeth is such a pleasure to deal with. She has a positive, peaceful, and gentle way about her that puts others at ease. I believe she sincerely cares about customers. I completed the transaction to buy the car late in the day and had to get back to the Hampton Roads area for an evening meeting. Elizabeth called after I left and said she would drive the Highlander to my house in Chesapeake and have a friend follow her from Elizabeth City to give her a ride back home. That’s exactly what she did – literally going the “extra miles” on her own time to provide the best possible service. When I got home later in the evening there was the Highlander waiting for me and Elizabeth had put the keys exactly where I asked. I really like the Highlander. It was well worth the investment of repairing the issues that it had. I would have no problem with buying another used vehicle from Midway Auto Group.

Rusted out 2006 4 Runner

Have replaced muffler, rusty transmission lines, rusted out radiator. Repair shop said brake lines are nearly rusted out. Dealer knew of rust problem, tried to cover up with under coating. I am guilty of not being more attentive when purchasing the vehicle. Trusted the Car Fax report, will not do this again. Toyota Motor Company has had to recall many trucks for rusted out frames but 4 Runners are not yet included. This dealer should have known about rust problems with this 4 Runner. His response was that it passed inspection. "Not his problem". Stupid me for trusting Car Fax, Toyota and any used car salesmen.

Dealer response

Mark, nice to hear from you again. We haven't had an opportunity to speak since you purchased your 4Runner nearly a year ago back on 11/28/2017. I do remember our conversation when you called in after you made your purchase. Can you believe that? A dealer that remembers customers from a year past, not something you find everyday I admit. You had some concerns about the rust on the truck then. In no way did I deny that a 100,000 mile 11 year old vehicle may have some rust, in fact, I told you at that time we undercoated it. Maybe you have forgotten about that, it has been awhile after all. If you remember I told you that the undercoat that we use has a retardant in it that would help slow down the oxidation process but in no way would it stop it completely. There are also things that, due to the very nature of their operation, simply cannot be sprayed, the exhaust, radiator and transmission lines to name a few. You are correct in the fact that I stated that the 4Runner did pass not only NC State Inspection at the time that you purchased it but VA State Inspection as well as that is the state where you registered the 4Runner. Unfortunately the only thing that I can attest to on a used vehicle when I sell one is it's current condition. I have no control over what may or may not wear or continue to deteriorate over time. Rest assured we made no attempt to hide anything from you last November when you bought your 4Runner, just the opposite. In fact after we spoke in December 2017 you left me a positive 4 star review on my buymidway.com website. I did go back and look at your account and see that you had the good foresight to purchase an Extended Service Contract, I can only assume that you have contacted them to see if they would cover any of the needed repairs? I am happy to discus this with you in more detail if you would like. Chris Kline General Manager 252-335-9800

Long Distance Buy

Midway Auto Group was a pleasure to work with. I made a site-unseen vehicle purchase from Elizabeth at Midway. I live in California and the transaction could not have gone any smoother. I really appreciate the customer service I received from Elizabeth and several other staff members of Midway Auto. Thank you!

What a great experience!!!!

After searching for a used car and dealing with the "Big Boy Stores" for a few days I came across midway. What a difference it made in my shopping experience. My wife and I were instantly greeted by a warm and welcoming lady named Elizabeth. She instantly made us feel welcomed and wasn't that normal "annoying" salesperson. She answered all my questions and I could tell she had completed all the required homework. The vehicle was listed at a more than reasonable price and the customer service was outstanding. Who would have thought I could buy a car just down the road from my house with no hassle what so ever AND have an awesome salesperson on top of it all. Note to self, never stray to the big city car lots again because you think they can give you a better deal and customer service!!!!!! Thanks sooooooo much Elizabeth.................

VERY GOOD PEOPLE TO WORK WITH.

Bought a 2010 Dodge Journey RT on 08/30/2017 and could not be happier right now. We were in and out in just over an hour and that was with a test drive. I do have a couple of items that need taken care of, so will rate the Quality of Repairs when these are taken care of.
