I had done a lot of online research and knew beforehand...

I had done a lot of online research and knew beforehand that I wanted an Avalon Hybrid. I went through Consumer Report's True Car program and Steve contacted me in response to my inquiry there. We made an appointment and he had a car waiting and ready for my test drive. We talked a bit first, giving Steve the chance to get a read on my buying style. He confirmed that the True Car prices were real (several thousand below MSRP) and didn't try to upsell me to the most expensive model (I was unsure about whether I wanted a Touring model or the Limited). He gave me a quick tour of the car, suggested a test drive route and sent me off on my own. I understand why most dealers insist on accompanying prospects on a test drive, but I don't want their chatter at that point, I want to experience the car. And I really liked it. By then it was getting dark. I hadn't let them appraise my trade yet (it didn't look great, being a salt-stained mess like everyone else's car at that point in the winter), so we scheduled a second appointment. While they were doing the appraisal, Steve got my color and equipment preferences and together we searched online to find one that met my desires. They would have to swap with another dealer. We hammered out the deal (easily...no stress) pending their getting me the color I wanted. Two days later, Steve called with the good news that they could get my car and would have it the following week. The delivery was like the rest of the process: relaxed, friendly, funny, very attentive and totally respectful. From start to finish I felt like a valued customer. It's not so common anymore, but that is the way it's supposed to be.

My wife and I have been shopping for a Toyota Avalon Hybrid for several months. We had visited several dealerships and were not satisfied with the results. I came upon Acton Toyota and contacted Mike Wegener. The entire experience was great. Mike is very knowledgable about the vehicle, he was professional and courteous. There was never any pressure to buy, when it came down to negotiating the price, it was fair and we got the price we wanted. I would recommend this dealership and Mike to all of our friends.

Purchased a brand new Venza in 2011 and was very happy with the buying experience. It was very easy, honest and straight forward. I drive a lot of miles annually so I bring the car into the dealer often for service. I have always taken in to Acton even though I drive bye to other Toyota dealers. On my most recent trip I was expecting a simple oil change and a check up. I am waiting in the waiting room when counter person came over and said my car needed belt that runs fan, saying it was cracked and worn. I asked if there was some type of warranty on the belt since I had just had it done a month or two prior, then he also said my brake fluid was old and had to be replaced. I had just had the brakes done on the previous service and I asked him didn't they do that last time I was in. He then checked the records and said I was right. Then he said we will just rotate the tires, I had just put the tires on (not at this dealer) two days earlier. Now the tire rotation can be explained away as an error. I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt but I find it hard to believe that just because i'm a women they were trying to charge me extra for service my car did not need. What really adds to my suspicion is that after every previous service I have had there I receive a survey within a day or two asking how my experience was. It been more then a week and I have not received the survey. I'll be back when it's time to buy another Toyota, but I'll go to a closer dealer for the service.

So that we may better evaluate and respond, please provide your contact information for us at your earliest convenience. We are anxious to review the specifics of your situation in order to clarify and/or address your concerns. Without knowing the exact specifics of your vehicle and without the ability to review the actual recommendations of the technician it is difficult to know where the problem(s) existed. I can assure you, however, that we do not treat women customers any differently than men customers and our business is based on trust and integrity. We do not knowingly sell work that is not needed nor would we ever tolerate that type of behavior from one of our employees. In closing, it would be helpful if you would contact us so that we may further investigate your concerns. I will promise you that we will work to find out what happened and to regain your confidence in our dealership. Mike Hills General Manager amhills@actontoyota.com

Dealer response

Acton Toyota of Littleton wrote on 3/18/2014 10:41:26 AM: Debra, Thanks so much for providing additional information so that we could research better what happened. First, let me apologize for what appears to be more human error than intentional. It appears that the Service Advisor did not properly research the service history of your vehicle prior to making some of the recommendations. It is clear that the brake fluid had been changed during the 60,000 mile major maintenance service and brake repair. Had he reviewed the prior history he would have seen that and would never have made that recommendation. We do not incentivise our Service Advisors to sell maintenance services so he had no motive to recommend unneeded work. We will review your experience with our personnel to reinforce again the importance of reviewing the service history prior to making recommendations based on time or mileage. As a way of showing our appreciation for your past loyalty and patronage, I have asked our Service Directory, Randy Irwin, to forward you an Acton Toyota gift card preloaded with $100 that you can spend on any future maintenance, repairs, or auto detailing. Once again, please accept our apologies and thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. Mike Hills General Manager

We had to wait a few weeks for our new Sienna. The dealership was waiting for a part to fix the recalled heated seats. Steve Kiviat and Mike Wegner were great. They realized how frustrated it was for us to have to wait for our new car. They both kept me updated on the timeline for the part. While I was waiting, the muffler on my minivan went. It was too loud to drive! Steve told me to bring it in and he will make sure that it got fixed. I made an appointment and the muffler was fixed. The part finally came in. I went to the dealership the other night to sign the paperwork. Both Mike and Steve went over all of the bells and whistles on the car with me and my 3 kids. Steve personally delivered the car to my work yesterday. Of course, this was after he picked up my 14 year old son to surprise him with his first official ride in our new car! Overall, I was very, very happy with my experience. This was all thanks to Steve and Mike!

I find car shopping can be very stressful .... Usually. I was browsing different websites and expressed interest in a few vehicles here and there. This can be another harassing ordeal - hounded & hounded by sales people, non-stop phone calls - you know the deal. Mike Wegner and the team at Toyota Acton were different. Mike called me & asked some specific questions and said he would keep an eye out for some vehicles that might match my needs. I ended up stopping in for a test drive that ended up needing to be very brief and quick as my schedule changed and I had to leave soon. Mike didn't even bat an eye. He just said, "no problem, let me get my jacket and a key and you'll be all set." Just like that. No sitting down to hash and rehash, just right to the point and it was great. Came back later, Mike was very pleasant and extremely patient with all the test drives I took, questions I asked, including different models. He outlined cars that fit into MY needs and we just went from there and ended up with a great car with a less-than-stressful transaction. When it was time for financing, Keith came out to bring me to his office & I have to admit, he was a little intimidating at first, but my first impression couldn't have been more off. He was also patient, funny and kind. I really appreciated his sense of humor at a time that can be hard for many people - talking numbers!!!! Very nice, friendly group of people at Acton Toyota.

I began my search online checking out the used car offerings at many different area dealerships. Once I was able to narrow down the type of car I was looking for, 4 door sedan with low mileage and good on gas, I stopped by Toyota to look at the selection. Once I got there, I was greeted by Mike who was very helpful throughout the process. He showed me each of the cars that fell under my requirements and got me into each for a test drive. There was no pressure and Mike was always available to answer any of the questions I had. Overall this was a very smooth experience enhanced by Mike's friendliness and helpfulness.

My experience with this dealership has been appalling. I bought a supposedly new RAV4 from them (salesperson was Maryanne Shannon) and they fraudulently misled me into believing the vehicle had negligible miles on it (the paperwork said it had 7 miles on it). I am pursuing redress with the State of Massachusetts for this deception. Worse still, the vehicle suffered a catastrophic failure while on the open road. I had it recovered to the dealership, where both the dealership and Toyota declared the vehicle to be trouble free. I intend to open a case with NHTSA regarding this issue. Lastly, on inspection of the vehicle after its long sojourn at the dealership I have discovered that the driver door weatherstrip has been pulled away. Thank you, Acton Toyota!

Dealer response

Mr. Lovell, It is surprising to learn suddenly of your concern about the new RAV4 you purchased nearly a year ago. At no time during the purchase and delivery of your new Toyota did you raise a concern about the small discrepancy between the 13 miles printed on all your final documents and what you allege was actually on the vehicle’s odometer the day you took delivery. New vehicles are routinely taken on test drives and are driven to be fueled prior to delivery. Regardless, we would be happy to extend the Toyota new vehicle warranty by the amount of miles in question; if you let us know the exact miles (100 or less?) we will make a note in our records. Your mechanical concern was escalated to Toyota Motor Sales, USA and a Field Technical Specialist who spent several days testing, evaluating, and driving your vehicle. At no point was Toyota’s representative able to duplicate the reported malfunction which would be necessary in order to diagnose and recommend a repair for your vehicle. You were provided complimentary substitute transportation during that period. Toyota has made a note of your concern and will be happy to make any required repairs or replacement should it become necessary. In closing, we have responded to your concerns both in person and on the telephone with the utmost professionalism. We would appreciate it if you would show the same respect for our employees who are not deserving of demeaning comments and insults. Mike Hills, General Manager

Acton Toyota was one of three dealerships I tried when searching for a Tacoma. I went with them because the others were unable to find me the truck I wanted: a stripped-down Tacoma without any of the packages. One of the other dealerships even told me that the truck did not exist, and could not be built. Acton, however, told me they could get it built, and we arranged for them to do so. In a twist of fate, as I was waiting for the truck to be built (5-8 weeks) I changed my mind and opted to go for the SR5 model. I expressed this to Scott and Mike and without hesitation they told me no problem, they had one in their system and would try to get it for me. Six days later they had swapped the truck into their lot, and we completed the paperwork and got the plates same-day. Overall, I appreciated Scott and Mike for their patience, and their willingness to get me what I wanted (twice) even though it was more work for them. They were pleasant to deal with, and Mike--whom I spent the most time with--talks to you like a real person instead of a salesman.

We purchased a new 2013 Toyota 4Runner SR5 from Steve Jensen in January. While shopping for new cars at other dealerships, I was disappointed in how little the sales staff new about their vehicles and how little passion they had for their jobs. Steve was the exact opposite. He was so knowledgeable about Toyota's entire product line, and his enthusiasm was appreciated. He did not pressure us into buying, but after having such a pleasant experience with Steve and at Acton Toyota, we couldn't imagine buying a car anywhere else. Our experience with Steve and the good price we received are the reasons why we chose Acton Toyota. We look forward to making our next purchase at Acton Toyota, and will be sure to contact Steve when we are ready to shop.

Four weeks ago I slid on a patch of snow/ice and hit a tree. Thank goodness there was no injuries other than some bumps and bruises. The insurance company totaled my vehicle and came to a quick resolution. Now the hard part, I had to find a new car in a price range I could afford. This was a challenge because I am one of those who analyze everything and can never make up their mind. I have to have all of the facts and then wait because just maybe if I wait one more day a better deal with come along ~ and it did! Over the course of a couple of weeks I went to several dealerships in the Worcester area but nothing felt right. I was panicking because it was now Wednesday and the rental car had to be returned by Friday. I knew what I wanted and the price I was willing to pay so a co worker suggested I do an internet search for the car/price I was looking for. That's when I found my car, at the right price and at the right place! I immediately sent an email requesting additional information about the car. Within minutes I received a response from Mike Wegener. I asked him for more information to include pricing and receive another instant response (SHOCKED)! I decided to drop in that night to take a look at the car. I didn't make an appointment and was told Mike had already left for the day BUT no worries because Steve Kiviat was right there to fill in. He answered all my questions - even ones I forgot to ask. He handed me the keys and said take it for a drive. After going for the test drive I was SOLD! But, I still had to check one more thing. My mechanic... I stopped in to see him the next morning and explained my situation. His response was "I would love to see you in a Toyota. Low maintenance costs and they last forever." But of course I already knew that! Ok, one more thing. I have to check consumer reports. Consumer reports gave me a big seal of approval on both the car and the price. Decision was made. I called Mike on Friday and told him I wanted the car.. that day. His response was just call me before you come so I can have it cleaned and ready for you. I must have called him 5 times that day with questions. Mike answered the phone every time and patiently answered all of my questions. When I went in to pick up the car he stayed with me the whole way. I was amazed at how well this dealership is run. Mike and Steve are the BEST!! I LOVE my new car. I am very happy with the price and couldn't be anymore satisfied with the service I received. Thank you Acton Toyota! Thank you Mike & Steve for making a difficult situation EASY!
