Ride Smart in Honeybrook sold us a car without oil in it…
Ride Smart in Honeybrook sold us a car without oil in it… and we have spent THOUSANDS on repairs in less than 2 months. You expect buying a used car from a dealership has some level of mutual trust and safety. You turn over your hard earned money and they sell you a used car with the expectation that it is a decent vehicle for the price point and that it is in good working order. All I was looking for was an affordable car to drive my children to school in and to commute to work. Unfortunately, this dealership sold us a vehicle that has been in the shop for almost half of the time we have had it since driving off the lot. On August 24th, 2024. We purchased a 2012 GMC Acadia. It looked beautiful inside and out. My father was so impressed with the dealership that he bought my mom a 2022 Subaru from them the same exact day. However, less than a week later- the car started grossly overheating. We pulled over, popped the hood, and We loaded it up with new coolant. We took it to our mechanic and they said that it needed a New Thermostat, new water pump, oil change because it was OUT of oil, and new coolant flush. $1392 for parts and labor, and not covered by warranty. After this costly repair, we monitored the oil consumption and realized there was no leak- and no abnormal oil consumption. It must have been a long time since it ever had an oil change for it to get as low as it did. Again- we had only had the car a few days- any dealership should not sell a car for thousands of dollars without a basic oil change being done to it. When we called them to let them know, They claimed to have a receipt for an oil change on it. However, it’s clear that the receipt is just a piece of paper and that no one actually performed the service. After we brought the car home from our mechanic, we drove it for less than a week again before the engine started shuttering, the check engine light came on, and a strong smell of gas flooded the passenger compartment. We pulled over, turned off the car and tried to start it. Multiple times it would not start. After a few minutes we got it started and got it home. We got it back to the mechanic that same day. This time they determined it needed: InTank fuel pump, fuel pressure sensor, O2 sensor, new spark plugs, and oil change again because fuel flooded the system. $2950 estimate. We called the warranty company and they told him they don't cover that. We had the repairs done and paid for it once again, completely out of pocket. This repair takes a week and when we get the car back, we are able to drive it a little over a week again before- you guessed it- it breaks down. This time it needs to be towed to the shop and we switch over to a GMC dealership in order to make sure we have specific GMC trained eyes on the repairs. At the GMC shop they said the engine cylinder number 2 was misfiring. The estimate for repairs was around $1600. Not covered by waranty. After over a week at the GMC shop, they called to tell us that the car repair was finished. When we pick up the car from GMC. they tell us that it looks like it recently had struts done, and that whoever did it did not do a good alignment, and that even though the outside of our tires looked *brand new*, the inside wear was so bad that he didn't recommend driving the car until we could get the tires and alignment done. We did not have that work done to the car- it must have been done prior to our purchase of the vehicle. So we drove it to pep boys for their next appointment- and had tires and an alignment completed for $980. Adding all of this up, we bought the car August 24th and it spent over 3 weeks in shops, cost almost $7k in repairs, and at the time, we hadn't even "owned" the car for more than 2 months. Repairs totaling over $6,500 is not something that anyone would consider reasonable in the amount of time we have had this
