Takata airbag recall

The NHTSA has now confirmed a fifth Takata related fatality for 2022 — the third this year for Stellantis — after a driver-side airbag inflator was ruptured in a 2010 Chrysler 300.

NHTSA says the latest death, involving the rupture of a 2002 Honda Accord, is the 23rd fatality confirmed as related to the faulty airbag inflators.

NHTSA’s latest notice comes after confirmation that the driver of a 2006 Ford Ranger died in a crash due to a faulty driver-side airbag inflator that ruptured.

Stellantis has issued a “Do Not Drive” warning for 276,000 model-year 2005-10 Dodge and Chrysler vehicles due to faulty driver-side airbag inflators.

BMW is recalling some 4,500 3 Series cars that had previously been recalled due to airbag inflators that were inspected but not replaced.

A defective Takata airbag inflator has been linked to a 19th death in the U.S., this time for the driver of a 2002 Honda Accord.

Nissan is issuing a recall for more than 26,000 Infiniti FX35 and FX45 SUVs due to incorrectly folded front passenger airbags.

Ford has issued two recalls for more than 153,000 vehicles after discovering that obsolete Takata airbag modules were not purged from service stock and may have been installed in collision and theft repairs.

In an action similar to fellow Detroit automaker GM in November, Ford will recall some 2.7 million model-year 2006-12 cars, pickup trucks and SUVs for defective Takata airbag inflators.

The latest proof of the lingering effects of Takata Corp.’s airbag inflator crisis comes by way of Nissan, which issued a recall for a select group of nearly 4,000 model-year 2002-06 Sentra compact sedans.
