Great Find
I never would have found the BMW I ended up buying if it werent for Cars.com. The car is a classic "old lady, garage kept..." vehicle. I love it! I bought it for my daughter and she is also thrilled (although I have threatened to trade her for my car - the BMW, although 11 years old is nicer than my 4-year old car)! Overall, a great buy and a great experience!

Loved the Car
Loved the car. 180,000 troublefree miles over 12 years. Fun to drive, responsive with quick steering. Base 6 cylander stick shift was all I needed. Car was totalled in a hail storm so I had to go looking. Over the 12 years I'd put on weight and gone on Social Security. Not being as spry as I once was getting in and out became an issue. Looked at the new 535 but why buy a BMW if you need an automatic transmission. It's like putting a race horse in front of a plow. Plus the price was simply too high. I could afford it but couldn't bring myself to do it. Wound up with a year old 2011 certified in warranty M37 that was $14,000 off list. It's not my little beemer but it's powerful, throaty and a pleasure to drive. Harder than a Lexus but softer than a 535.

Best life expectancy abong most car brands.
Amazing response, crisp sound, and great fuel consumption. The architectural shape (facelift) is a breakthrough beauty, best until year 2000 and even until today (see current "rounded-shape" models - yearly facelift update is required by law...). This car is a work-of -art!

Great car
I own a 323ci with 82000 miles. It's one of the best cars I own and driven. Even though the car is under-powered compared to other vehicles, it sure doesn't feel like it. The interior is very nice and simple. Buttons, gadgets, etc, are easily spread out and accessible. The exterior is very nice and up to date. BMWs def. hold their value in the looks department. The ride is extremely comfortable but since the car sits low, you might hear some road noise. As expected the maintenance is expensive even though it's a 10 year old car. Brakes are about $900-1100 dollars. It doesn't matter where you bring it the cost will remain the same. Thermostate replacement cost about $500 dollars because BMW always recommend to replace all the components instead of one. It hurts to go to the mechanic but I know it needs to be done at whatever price, since I electively purchased a BMW. Overall, Great car! I also have a new Mercedes C-Class (wifes) but I still prefer the BMW.

sweet Ride
My BMW is now a decade old and everything about it was at or above average except for the automatic transmission.Reverse went up at about 100k and believe me I am a gentle driver. I would not recommend the BMW to anyone who didn't live within 30 miles of their dealership because even though I made my dealership aware of the problem they were not close enough to follow up and as a result I wound up out of warranty and with a new transmission. These Automobiles are wonderful but I believe living close to your dealership is a must.My next car will not be a BMW.

So Far So Good.
I just let my 04 325ci go back to the back. Very nice car, some rattles, but a good ride. It was pretty loaded. Every option except Navi. I owed $15,500. I had a car with 78k miles, no warranty, and looking at a $340 payment for the next 4-5 years. I just purchased a 2000 323ci (strippy) with 220k miles, and I love it. The manual is much more fun, I get better mileage, and it is white instead of black. It gets pretty hot here. Needs brakes and maybe shocks and struts, but is a strong, fun runner even with 220k. BMW quality.

Reliable
Alomost 100,000 miles with almost no problems. Still handles and rides great. I plan on having this car for 20 years, just like my last BMW.

Great car but some electrical bugs- 4.5 avg rating
Im original owner of an aug 99 build date 323Ci coupe. After all the years its still a joy to drive. Handling is great. Sport seats are great. Looks great too - even though close to 11 yrs old! I bought mine in Germany under military sales. brought here and took it back to germany for 5 years. Drove it all over western europe. Now it sits mostly in the garage as i work from home mostly. Then comes the reliability issues. Rubber door edges came off, sunroof interiors broke, constantly has engine light on - probably due to VANOS. Watch for those and get them fixed or have them fix before you buy. Other than that the car should be great and the engine is solid!

Great car!
I am the original owner of this fantastic vehicle purchased in 8/99 so almost 11 years old. I have to tell you - great bang for the buck. I don't drive it in the winter so have less than 78K miles on it. Just checked mpg and am getting 36 highway w/6cyl auto. I have not had one issue with this car so far, only routine maintenance.

Best car I have ever owned!
Bought a 2000 323i 2 months ago, and it has been the best car I have ever owned. the 323i is a little slow, 0-60 in ~8s, but its handling makes up for it over and over. One thing to note though, this generation needs to have it's cooling system completely overhauled after 100k miles, but don't let this scare you away - just inquire about this before you buy. These are amazing cars and make up for their shortfalls many times over as soon as you jump in and drive away. :) I would like to add, with proper winter tires, it is the best car I have ever driven in the snow. It handles better in the snow than many 4wd pickup trucks thanks to its near perfect 50:50 weight distribution.
