powerful machine

400 horsepower! This car has all possible features. There is few errors on display when you start car like "Electronic damping control", "brake system", "tire pressure monitor malfunction", "electronic damping control", car is okay mechanically but sensors never have been replaced, that is a reason for those errors on display. 400 horsepower - Really powerful machine, it will be great fit for people who loves sport but comfortable rides.

Great car, great performance, bad engine design

I have a 2011 BMW 550i with M package and luxury package 6 speed manual. For about 30000 miles no problems. 50000 miles everything changed. The engine was replaced due to a fuel injector breaking and scaring the cylinder. Was covered under warranty. About 5000 miles later fuel injector broke again. Had them all replaced as advised which was a mistake. Car needs oil added very often. Next had coolant get in the oil somehow lucky it didn't get into the engine. Had the coolant system replaced. Now the car has about 75000 miles but runs amazing. So here is why this car has alot of these problems. The engine is very compact it's a V8 twin turbo so there is alot of engine . The turbos rest directly on the engine thus it's very difficult for the heat to dissipate. Thus BMW put fans in order to the cool engine when the car is turned off. However this is why the batterys need to be replaced so often. Also you will be replacing alot of hoses that cost alot in labor because the engine is so compact you need to remove lots of pieces to get to the hoses. The hoses break because the engine sprays oil and the heat of the engine and the oil weakens the plastic. At 75000 miles and about 30000 miles on the new engine I had it tuned by a professional tunes and added alot of horsepower really is worth. Actually can make the engine run smoother and because this engine is a monster with the twin turbos if you tune it properly you can't believe the sound and the horsepower you will pick up.

Fantastic car

I wanted to buy an M5 test drove both and had to decide between performance vs cost. I read all the car mags and all of them said save your money and go with the 550 , same car not quite as fast but still insane speed and save $30.000. I bought the 550 and love it. No problems handles like a champ insane fast and comfortable...

Most fun car I have ever owned

Reliable, safe car perfect for the family, it gives you the sports car experience with four doors. Would do it all again, I brokenhearted that I had to trade it in for the minivan.

Sport and appealing

Nice vehicle with a sporty look. I enjoy the vehicle and the look of it but would prefer something newer. My current vehicle is a 2009 and this vehicle is not considered much newer.

BMW 550i M Sport

1st : 2008 550i M Sport 2nd: 2011 550i M Sport I would classify them as luxury performance sedans. Both have very strong engines and are VERY quick.
