Great Car

My 2nd x series Bimmer. Bought as CPO in 2009 with 23k miles. No major problems. Replaced tires at 44k miles. When my BMWs are going out of 50k warranty (BMW fixes, replaces anything up to 50k miles) I trade them. Cost to keep on the road is expensive. No more than MB though. I thoroughly enjoyed driven this car for two years. Great performance. Mileage = 23 mpg consistently 75 highway/25 city driving. I always used 93 octane. Car started using oil and I expected this was a bad sign. Only 1 quart, but I suspect BMW is a little out there with their 15k oil changes. Also, I'm tired of using premium gas. Many complaints online about the 6 speed tranny. It does shift hard and lags when you step on it. I think BMW should be upfront about the problem and fix the problem. Another reason I won't buy another one for sometime. Rides like a truck. Great for handling. Rides like on rails. Overall a really good car but don't buy with > 50k miles without buying the extended 6 yr 100k warranty. Its worth the $1900.

Great Gas Mileage and Handles well in the snow

I have owned my 2007 X3 for 8 months now and have enjoyed driving it. It performs similar to my 94 3 series; however, it has the added benefit of all wheel drive which is needed in the winters during those snow storms. The satelite system and all of the car functions are well designed and work great.

Value for the money

High quality, high performance car. Doesn't drive as a SUV, more like a sportscar with offroad capabilities.

BMW X3 - 2007 much improved!

This X3 has both the sport and premium package with 19"wheels and the new-for- 2007 XDrive system. The cars handling is extremely responsive and solid. Acceleration is brisk in Sport mode. The ride is much-improved over previous years as the newer model handles bumps in a softer manner versus the truck-like feel in the older models. The leather is premium quality, seats are firm hold the driver in place during spirited driving a provide excellent support in long road trips. Electronics leave something to be desired in this $50,000 SAV. One cannot have an IPOD and Sirius hook-up at the same time through the BMW audio system. This was corrected on newer BMW models, but Acura and others are way ahead on the audio technology frontier. The safety features are second-to-none and the fit and finish are what you'd expect from BMW and will be improved on the 2011 platform. In-town MPG is about 17 - 18, on the road is 24 - 25MPG. This is a great urban vehicle that parks easy and hauls four kids plus driver with ease. The Xdrive system is magical on snow and icy roads. It provides an unsurpassed level of confidence when driving in hazardous conditions.

A great deal!

The X3, especially in the used market under $30,000.00, is an exceptional value in my opinion. You get much more space and utility when compared to the 3-Series BMWs. Extra cargo space, the panaromic sunroof, excellent handling on dry roads as well as on rain and snow make this car an excellent choice for cost conscious BMW lovers. I heard some problems regarding the automatic transmission so I bought the manual version and I absolutely love it. The comfort seats is a must as they substantially improve your comfort especially on long distance highway driving. I would also look for one with navigation since it is right inline with the adventurous spirit of the X3. I am also very impressed with the handling on all kinds of surfaces, and it feels like a sedan on the highway as well as curvy back roads. I thought the sound system could be improved. Overall, this is a great value that BMW offers to its loyal customers (I owned a 330i, 335xi and 550i in the past).

Best handling vehicle I've ever owned

I've owned a lot of sports cars in the past. For an SUV, the handling is amazing. I can take a hard turn on a dirt road and the X3 handles like it's on rails. I don't know how one reviewer here says it's a gas hog. I can get up to 30 MPG with this thing doing 60 MPH with the cruise control on. The interior is beautiful. I only wish the dash had more bling as some of the Japanese cars. With 20,000 miles on the vehicle, I have not had experienced any transmission problems at all. The transmission shifts perfectly. On the highway, you can punch it and not have too many problems passing other cars. I feel very safe in this vehicle. So far I've only seen a couple electrical problems. The light in the glove box comes on at night for no reason. When turning the vehicle off, I've seen the left hand side lights stay on while the right ones were turned off as if a relay was stuck on. I would buy a 2nd BMW if I could afford to do so. This is one of the finest vehicles I've ever owned and would recommend it and not listen to the negative reviews on here. Test drive one on some curves and see for yourself. With the X-Drive, I can never manage to squeal the tires. The traction is excellent. With 20,000 miles, the tire tread still looks brand new having Pirelli tires. I drove in some very bad rain storms last week doing 70 MPH on I-95. I was able to zip right around all of the other slow vehicles. The X-Drive works amazing. I would never buy another vehicle that doesn't come with stability control ever again.

Auto Transmission is Dangerous

Due to the unpredictable nature of the automatic transmission in the 07 X3 I would steer clear of this vehicle. It will hesitate when trying to merge, make an uphill turn, or from a rolling stop. This is caused by the vehicle starting in 2'nd gear (bmw trying to save gas). In sport mode the down shifting can be so harsh as to think someone has rear-ended your vehicle. This is all dangerous since on several occasions I was almost broad-sided or rear-ended due to this very noticeable shift lag. Many other X3 owners have been persuading BMWNA to trade or buy back the vehicle because the danger is so pronounced. I will no longer put my family in this car as I feel it presents to great a danger. There are many great cars out there in this price point. Unfortunately this is not one of them. Check the fan-zine sites for BMW's and you will find this a much more common occurence then BMW will have you believe. Would I recommend this vehicle to someone. Yes, if I didn't like them.
