Best ride and handling

Pros: - X3 drives amazing! I have bought the base sDrive30i model with RWD with a $500 upgrade for blind spot and lane assist. I drove the car for 1 week and I have no regrets. The drive in sport mode provides an amazing driving experience. The comfort mode enables a great experience with an improved mpg. The eco drive gives has nothing impressive, but is supposed to give you a good mpg. - Phone calls via Bluetooth are super clear with no background noise. - The default HiFi audio system is good enough for my needs and is almost on par with the premium $2000 audio system I had on my Tucson 2011. For the best audio experience the premium sound upgrade is available but many will find the default HiFi sufficient. I thought I need the HK audio upgrade but after testing the sound I saw no need. Cons: - there is no apple car play in the default trim and the Apple car play option is a subscription; this is the biggest negative for a car that has $43.5K MSRP - didn’t see any benefit from the lane assist (I may not have it properly configured); - non-touch LCD screen; I truly believe that companies like Mercedes, Audi and BMW need to change their obsoleted mentality about not providing an LCD. This is a must on any car in the Standard trim. - the $500 safety upgrade to blind spot should be in the standard package. Just increase the basic price by $500 if you want to charge for it. This is the expectation every 2019/2020 driver has. - a bit more expensive than Audi Q5 which includes more upgrades in the standard package, but preferred the X3 over Q5 as the driving experience is overall better Other comments: - mpg in eco mode with very careful driving achieved 32 mpg; my Hundai Tucson GLS 2011 2.4L engine (160 HP) achieved 30 mpg on same segment while Mercedes GLE 350 (302 HP) achieved 21 mpg (eco mode) - mpg in comfort mode on my commute (2 miles city, 38 miles highway) achieved 22 mpg (normal driving). Achieved 27 mpg with Hyundai using similar driving on same segment. I didn’t have the chance to drive the eco to provide a good reference. The GLE 350 managed to achieve 19 mpg (comfort mode) While I was very annoyed with the choice BMW made around apple car play, the improved driving experience is what made me go with X3 I drove: - Hyundai 2011 Tucson, 2.4L engine - Mercedes 2017, GLE 350, 3L engine - Toyota 2007, Camry, 2.4L engine Tested - Audi Q5, 2019 - Audi A5, 2019 - Porsche Macan 2019 - Porsche Cayenne 2019 - Mercedes GLC 2019 - Toyota Highlander 2019, 3L - Acura MDX and RDX 2019 - BMW 530e, 2019 - BMW 530i, 2019 - BMW 330i, 2020 - Honda Acord 2019 - Hyundai Kona EV 2019 Best on my experience BMW X3 had the best driving experience, followed closely by Audi Q5. I also enjoyed driving the 330i series and was a strong candidate. I didn’t enjoy the 530i as much as I expected (I drove it right after the X3) I provided 5 stars for reliability as I couldn’t skip the rating. I hope the car will be reliable in the long run

Great "compact" luxury SUV

The 2019 BMW X3 30i is a great, compact luxury SUV. I've always preferred and driven sedans but after my BMW 3 series (F30) was t-boned and totaled last year, I decided I needed a bigger vehicle...but not too big. I debated the X3 and X5 and ultimately decided that the X3 was the better vehicle for my 20+ mile commute in DC traffic. I ordered the vehicle; added all the safety, entertainment, and luxury features I wanted; and waited three weeks for it to be delivered. While I appreciate the appeal of the 6 cylinder turbo, the four cylinder turbo engine is plenty for me and my DC commute. I especially like the safety, luxury, and tech features and believe they're critical in any new car. Like any BMW, once you start adding options the price escalates pretty quickly. That said, you can get good deals throughout the year...you just have to be vigilant. I would absolutely recommend the X3...in fact, six months after we bought mine, we purchased one for my wife.

substandard rear collision alert

I just bought a BMW X3 30i auto and was extremely unhappy to find out that it does not have what I consider a standard safety feature found on other, even older, cars. I am used to there being an audio warning signal with a wide side and rear range when I am backing up to alert me if there is another car coming from the side behind me, or a pedestrian. I just called BMW customer service which confirmed that this car does not have this feature - not even an option in this model. I was told that this car does have park distance control sensors with a range of 6 feet/2 meters. I almost hit a neighbor who was walking past me while I backed out of my driveway onto the street. There was no alert signal - thank goodness I just happened to look into my rear view mirror and braked in time. He was about 4 feet away from my car, right behind it (so much for a 6 foot range). I definitely would not have bought this car had I known. My daughter, who was thinking of purchasing the same car, finds this incredulous and will not purchase it. I will continue to tell everyone who asks about my new car about this serious default. I wonder if my review will make BMW's review website?!

Perfect balance of size, handling, and comfort.

Perfect. Not only is it fun to drive and very comfortable, but it is also the quietest car I have ever driven. The controls are well laid out, so you are not distracted from focusing on the road.

Most comfortable car we've owned

Took the car for a test drive and showed it to my wife. After sitting in the car she wouldn't want to come out of the car.
