Great Vehicle

I've had the vehicle for only a short time, but, so far, I love it. Mine has the V8 engine. It takes a minimum of 91 octane and likes to gulp gas more than I expected, but other than that relatively-small negative, it's fantastic.

Surprisingly lacking in some areas

The 2012 BMW X5 35d is excellent in all the ways you would expect. Braking is outstanding. I drive the Diesel version and it has great acceleration. Inside is as expected. Great leather fittings, great comfortable seats and an excellent driving position. Biggest plus: 600 miles on a tank of diesel fuel which is less expensive per gallon than gas. I save enough money each year on gas over my Land Rover to make the payments on this car. However it is surprisingly bad in a few unexpected areas. 1. First is the steering. There is little to no steering assist at low RPMs so the steering is very heavy in the places when you wish It wasn't ... such as parking and general slow around town driving. 2. Second issue is that it really does not handle road irregularities very well. I cant tell if this is because of the 18 inch 55 series tires or the run flats or the suspension struggling to control the 5000 pounds. I replaced my Land Rover with this car and the, similarly sized and weighted, land Rover is so much better in this area. Don't get me wrong, this BMW handles the curvy mountain roads like you would expect of a BMW. But just hope there isn't a bump in the curve or you may need some fresh underwear. Opt for the 20 inch tires which may provide better sidewall strength which could relieve this problem. 3. The power curve is maddening. Either the car is crawling along too slow or it is racing too fast. There seems no way to easily dial in speeds somewhere in the middle. The throttle seems fairly unresponsive until pressed hard and when you do that the full 425 pounds of torque (which arrive at 1750 RPM) start clawing their way through asphalt at an impressive rate. However sometimes I just need to merge into traffic at a hasty but controlled pace and there just isn't any easy way to get this done. Other than those issues it is a great car as you would expect of other cars in this price range. But because of the mentioned issues I will not be keeping this as a long term vehicle and I would never buy another one.

X5-50i Non-stop Power Handling and Luxury in 1

An amazing combination of power and handling with room to throw in golf clubs, flat screen TV and kids. Sport seat w/cooling and massage make this car a long distance road warrior. V-8 growl is bad-a. More legroom in back seat than Cadillac Escalade. This machine does it all - with AWD that has RWD bias it keeps the fun factor in Cleveland snow storms and mountain twisties. I have owned other brands, but keep coming back to BMW. They have it figured out - the magic balance of ride and handling like no other. If you have to wear a suit, need a family friendly vehicle, but really love power and handling - the X5-50i is it. This car is buttoned down, but ready to rumble.

Comfortable, Spacious, Excellent Handling

This vehicle handles well and is very responsive to driver input, both in steering and acceleration. It has quite comfortable seating in front and rear. It has numerous driver's aides that make driving a pleasure.

Greatest car ever

Beautiful to look at, a dream to drive, handles like a sports car, roomy, feels like a luxury sedan with all the same bells and whistles. I'll never drive anything else but a BMW.
