I can't believ GM quit making this vehicle!

I am extremely disappointed that GM stops making this model. I bought the car used and I understood it had a recall. But with the low mileage and good price, I decided to go for it. I have a disability and wanted something that would be easy to get in and out of and if needed, to be able to accommodate a wheelchair without a fuss. The recall was no big deal and I took it to a local Chevy Dealer who was more than happy to fix the ignition recall, even though I had not bought it there. I found the car to be very comfortable and the driver seat has several adjustments with great lumbar support. The split back seats and the front passenger seat all fold down flat which really comes in handy for me. Between hauling lumber, paint and other hardware, big dogs and travel to several Powwows a year with passengers, it has more than met every expectation that I had. The cruise control is great and it is not costly for my mechanic to work on (recently had right rear shock replaced due to road hazard). It gets better gas mileage than my former van, and has been very reliable. The exterior styling is not really something I thought about, but it is extremely easy to maneuver and seems like it can turn on a dime. Both the exterior and interior are very easy to clean and I really like the material (whatever it is) on the dash, steering wheel, door panels, back of seats and floors. It never gets too hot in the summer where you burn your hands on anything and doesn't seem too cold in the winter. The radio and disc player work great and the clock is very easy to reset when needed. The only thing I wish it had was a bigger cup holder between the front driver and passenger seats and cup holders for the back seat passengers. Again, I am severely sad that I have not been able to trade up to a new HHR.

very convenient for hauling medium cargo

This is a very convenient and practical car for those who want to haul medium to large size items. I have hauled plywood ( cut partial sheets ) KD cabinetry, lumber up to 8' , and even appliances. I hauled full size ranges , dishwashers, ice makers , countertops , smaller windows , and a variety of tools.

The most useful car I've owned

The HHR is like a Harry Potter car, it seems bigger on the inside than on the outside. With some nice Michelin tires, it rides pretty smooth. Putting the seats down I have hauled large piles of 8' lumber and the car didn't skip a beat; the suspension must be more heavy duty than the Cobalt it shares a lot with, fully loaded with lumber it still doesn't perceptibly lower it's stance. I wish it were large enough for a 4' wide sheet of plywood, but it's not. I have hauled a washing machine with no problem. The seats are good sized and comfortable, I'm over 6', so I had to push the seat all the way back and all the way down, and in order to see out of the low front window I have to swing the visor to the side, but it's not too small for me. The interior is utilitarian, but durable. There isn't a Bluetooth connection, so if you want that you will need an aftermarket radio, or use the aux port to plug in directly. The base engine is zippy from the take-off but my commute takes me over several mountains and this requires lowering the shifter into the "I" position, doing that gives it plenty of power over the hills, but less gas mileage. The brakes are weak, I replaced the front rotors with performance drilled and slotted versions and that brings it into the acceptable range. The flex fuel sounds like a good idea, but when I've used it the car runs rough, with substantially less gas mileage and performance, and at the worst it caused the intake and exhaust camshaft sensors (solenoid) to quit working and need replaced. I'm up to 145k miles with no issues other than maintenance and those two sensors. There isn't as much available aftermarket as far as customization as there is with the PT Cruiser, but it starts off with a nice retro feel. Overall it's a great little retro SUV/wagon/car/truck, SWCT?

386,399mi and runs like a dream!

Altho I don't care much for the body style, you can't beat it's reliabilty. Still runs beautifull. Interior is spacious but I do miss a middle console between the front seats. It was replaced with a convienent dash console close enough to the driver. Draw backs: poor quality factory stero speakers, battery is under the tire in the back.I find this inconvenient. If you don't was the salt off after snowfalls it will rust by the wheels where snow and ice accumulate. Bought mine used and it was already patch-painted so now I need to be careful about snow and salt build up as well as touching up paint there. Bright spot to that is there is a spray paint for Chevys that matchs perfectly...at least for the silver I have anyway.

Always reliable!

This was one of my favorite cars. It drives and handles like a little car but has so much space and is so comfortable. It makes traveling a breeze. The back can carry a ton of storage. You can haul most anything. Gas mileage is great. Plus I love the retro look.

Perfect for my use!

This is the second of these HHR Panels I've owned. I'm a musician and need a car with plenty of room for my gear and this one, having no windows in the cargo area, is very secure. It also has an alarm system, remote start, and I find it uniquely stylish.

Economical and unique-looking retro

Good cargo space, back seat not so comfortable, but front bucket seats are comfortable. Averages 22-23 mpg in the city, good sound system.

Great vehicle it has kept my family safe since new

It would be hard to find a vehicle that has been so well maintained and reliable at this price point. Bluetooth, USB port, aux input jack.

It was an OK car to own

Comfortable, stands at a good height. Took care of it, but still a few issues with vibration. Great space for travel.
