buyer beware!

leased my 2008 Caravan SXT... nicely eqipped ; great cargo capacity...good handling & comfort. same experience with early transmission & brake replacement Chrysler offered partial reimbursement for front brakes only...rear replaced out-of-pocket. yes, many recalls but at no cost to me...My driving habits yield the low end on gas mileage, so all-in-all, will probably not purchase at lease end because of fears more repairs with no warranty...

Was happy with Caravans till now

Bad ad bad-I feel let down, Ive been driving Dodge vans since I was 18 and am 50 now. My 2008 grand caravan has all the peoblems listed above before I hit 44K mi. Now the key transmitter is shot...and here's the kicker (ready)--a replacement key is on back-order so I can't drive the thing because I cant get a key to save my life. Now thats criminal! No more Dodge for me.

NICE DRIVE

I was nervous to buy used. I decided to buy Certified Used and I am still not sold on the label of "Certified." I was under the impression that it was as close to "new" as "used" could get! Well, there is a 3 month/3,000 mile warranty that Certified Dodges are privvie to. So I made my list and sent my hubby in to have the minor repairs done. He was told, "it is a used car." xxx is the difference and why buy Certified then? Over all I am glad I bought my van and VERY glad I have a warranty, and bought the extended warranty. Within my first 3k mi. I already had a wheel bearing replaced ($1100 value according to the dealer). This morning I also received a post card in the mail that I have a recall on my power sliding door also!!! Thank heaven I have another 45k mi. left on my warranties!!! The whole time I had a rental car, my kids wanted the van back, so did I! OVERALL I am happy w/ my purchase!

Most unreliable car I have ever owned

We purchased in July 2008 and have had numerous problems with this car including high pressure hose for A\C leaking which required replacement, front wheel bearing replacement, premature front brake replacement, electrical system went dead while driving on several occasions and came back on by its self, transmission replacement at 25,649 miles and now at 60,002 miles it needs to be replaced again! I have owned Dodge Mini-Vans since 1986 and was very happy with them. The 2008 model is the worst car I have ever owned. Besides the promblems listed above it has numerous rattles and sqeaks including the sliding doors.

Pretty good car!

I traded a 2007 Nissan Quest in on a 2008 Grand Caravan when they came out with the new bodystyle and I'm impressed with it for the most part. I got the one with the 3.8L engine because they didn't have the 4.0L engine yet (or so I was told at the time) and I don't like that it's slower and gets worse mileage than the Quest did, but it has Sirius TV and Radio, leather, power doors and everything all for a lower price! I love that! My wife appears to enjoy it too. She said she misses the styling of the Quest but the GC is not a bad looking minivan either... I just wish she'd keep it clean... Leaves all kinds of trash and her antiques lying around in it.

fedup

We have had our van for 3yrs almost. It is soon to be gone and we cant wait to get something in a honda, toyota, or something similar. The issues started with the rear doors not closing all the time. Dealer blamed it on kids at first, then found a update for computer. The trans. shifts hard and sometimes slips. first dealer said there all like that. so took it to another dealer they change the torque convertor. seem to help a little. not fixed. one day the computer shut down stranding my wife at work. that WAS AT ABOUT 5000 miles. reset comp. ok for now. the rear brake are the issue now calipers keep locking up this make the wheel hot enough to fry an egg, it intermitten so when taken to dealer they say well we cant duplicvate it so theres nothing we can do. After about a year and a half the replaced one caliper and all brake pads in rear. and yes the air conditioning hose blew out and we had to get a power steering hose replaced as well. If you dont have power to radio, doors, windows, and other assesseries then your ignition switch is sticking. I could never recomend this to anyone I care about.

Major brake issues

I really liked this vehicle (SE) when I first purchased it. Unfortunately the front brakes--drums and pads--were toast at 16K miles. The rear soon followed at 22K. Don't expect Dodge to rectify the problem either, at least at their cost. Even with the replacements in place the vehicle vibrated upon braking and squealed like a stuck pig. I sold the van a month ago and bought a Toyota Highlander, which I'm VERY happy with. Had the brakes not prematurely worn out I'd likely still be driving her. I do miss all the interior gadgets too.

Very disappointed!

This is my 6th dodge caravan. I am shocked at what we've been through with this van. My reveiw is going to sound very similar to one of the others written before me. We had a new transmission at 33,000 miles- new brakes twice on the front & once on the rear, both of which were very expensive and no generic market was available it was a dealer item, & a new set of tires all by 40,000. The tires are very expensive & only 1 company makes an off brand. They are low & thin-no one gives a warranty on the tires! I checked about 15 different places in N. GA & Chattanooga, TN area. The rear brakes are just like the front so you can expect to change them -I don't mean just the pads I mean the drums too!-pretty often. This van was designed to hold the road & drive different & it does-i actually love how it handles, but it's a maintenance night mare! I'm just writing a review today because now my radio has gone out-no lights even for the clock & it's not just a fuse! When I had to have brakes & tires at the same time I called my salesman and told him to find me a used 07. I was ready to go back to a trusted, tried & true model. As bad as I hate to say it, I would not buy an 08. I don't know if 09 or 10 has changed these problems, but I could not feel good about recommending it if they haven't.

Down hill since 1985

I have owned 6 Dodge/Chrysler minivans since 1990 and I am so disappointed with the 2008 Dodge Gran Caravan SXT. It is the worst van I had owned yet! Prior to 44,000 miles These are the problems I had with this JUNKER; 1. Transmission had to be replaced 2. Front wheel Bearings wore out 3. Air conditioner hose burst. 4. Defective rear sliding door sensors 5. Crazy electrical issues 6. Entertainment system went on the ?? 7. Rides very rough 8. Seats are very hard 9. Poor gas mileage 18-19 hwy 10. Odd size tires (expensive) 11. Odd size disc brake pads (very expensive) Now do you want to buy one of these?
