2012 Ford Focus consumer reviews

I have had several Ford vehicles in my life and this is by far the worst vehicle I have ever owned. The transmission is terrible. The transmission is jerky, the tranmission has a chattering noise, it acts like its going to stall out, half the time you give it gas it won't go and when using cruise control it pretty much does whatever it wants. The dealership has done 4 different updates on it, the clutches have been replaced, the Ford service field representative has driven it and all Ford can say is it all normal characteristics of the vehicle. If it was normal all the vehicle would do it but my Ford dealership is saying some do and some don't. After the last update the vehicle ran better but now all the old characteristics are back, took it to the dealership again and the greased the clutches, only to mask the issue. I have once again called Ford filing my 3rd maintance on the vehicle and they are pretty much saying there is nothing they can or will do. I want rid of the vehicle before it does actually stall out in a lane of traffic and seriously hurting one of my child or someone else but the vehicle has no value to it so of course if I traded it in i would be completely upside down and have a huge payment.

Bought my Focus used, wanted a new car, but did not see anything I liked. This car hit all my buttons, had a very nice look to it and great gas mileage. And I was determined to by an American car. Thought I had read the reviews, but obviously I did research well enough. Have no idea how it got 4 stars!!! The transmission is horrible, each time I complained they had my computer reprogrammed. Still same problem. What is really funny, or not is the dealership said "We've never heard of any problems" REALLY????!!!! As with the other reviews, the car spits and stutters, you think it was 10 years old and a clutch was going out. As far as driving in bumper to bumper traffic it is scary. Also lets talk about the material they use for seats. It stains, not that you spilled anything, just due to change in temperature. It's the most weird thing I have ever seen. Exp. I set a dozen eggs on back seat, in their container, in a bag, no leaks nothing. Seat was stained, and you can scrub the whole seat, stain comes out, but is different color then the seat next to it. Insane. So, not only does it run bad, it looks like old and used within 2 months. Never in my life have I experienced such a terrible car. Ford needs to admit their mistakes and compensate people, but someone elseis gonna see it as I originally did and then have the same problems. Notice all the used ones with low mileage for sale??? Hummmmm...DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!!!! Ford is making a good money selling and reselling these cars. Nothing will change until someone gets seriously injured driving this car. Traded it for a Honda, and will never, ever look at a Ford again!!! People would have more respect if you admit something is wrong instead of covering it up.

I own a driving school that owns Ford Focuses from 2007 - 2012. The Focus has been a great car, BUT, the 2012's are a disaster because of the constant transmission problems. We've had multiple computer updates and two new clutches. We're now trading them in for Corolla's. Sorry Ford, you've lost us for good.

I have always been pro Ford my whole life, but Ford has really dropped the ball on this one. The transmission has been giving me problems since day one. I've brought it to the service garage twice since I've owned it, complaining about the same rattling noise and jerkiness from the transmission. The Ford Sync system freezes constantly and resets from time to time. Very disappointing.

I did my homework before purchasing my 2012 Ford Focus (Automatic/4 door/hatchback/titanium package). Top rated car. Just turned 1 and has under 9000 miles. Just found out transmission is leaking and transmission clutch is broken. Why? I drive like a granny. I'm very disappointed and concerned about the investment I made buying this car. My Jetta lasted 17 years w/o a problem. Ford will only approved replacing broken parts. What happens after warranty expires?

I love this Focus,My only concerns are the the funky newish transmition they have.It's very jerky and not very smooth.But has been updated at the dealer and is better.I love the looks and the ride.

I absolutely love my ford focus se hatchback! It's my first brand new car and I'm a 20 year old college kid! It took a little while to get used to the finicky automatic transmission though. The styling is amazing inside and out, I love the aircraft looking dash! I had a co-worker walk out into the parking lot and ask what kind of James Bond looking thing it was, he was surprised to hear it was a ford! I have had no problems with this car and it is incredibly quiet. It's quite a step up from my last focus which was an 09' s model of which I hated! And this is by far not a slow car by any means, the acceleration is by far more impressive than my friends VW jetta with the 2.5 and mine still gets better gas mileage! It's no high performance car but this thing can reach speeds I never figured a small car could reach! My favorite features are mines sport and winter packages, come in very handy in Michigan winters! I would recommend the ford focus any day of the week!

I have owned my Focus Hatchback for 1 year now. I do a lot of highway driving for work (200 miles/day) so I have 40,000 miles in one year! I did a lot of research before my purchase and found the auto tend to have a lot of problems. I went with the manual. This has been a great reliable car for me. The seats are a little stiff but not terrible. There a number of manual seat adjustment which I like because than they won't break. I love the SYNC system and use it daily. My MPGs are great! Like i said I do all highway and I'm usually between 37 - 40 MPGs. I love the look and style of the hatchback.

I own a2012 Focus SEL. Its a pretty good car overall other than the 6-speed auto. Its a herky jerky thing. Car has lil over 39000 miles on it now and its going in Monday to have the clutches changed. Just worries me about after my warranty expires. I drive about 64 miles a day commute and Ive averaged about 34 mpg in mixed driving

After 3 weeks, I really like my used Focus hatchback. It's fun to drive, looks good and the best thing: It uses MUCH less gas than the car I had before: A Camry. I could have spent more money to get a VW Jetta station wagon, but I'm perfectly happy with the Focus. It looks like a good deal.
