Awesome
I love this car. I have always loved ford, but this car is awesome. I get about 32 mpg in the city and 41 on the highway w/ the SE Sport package. The car is perfect for commuting which is what I'm doing, plus it has plenty of pep and will outrun my 2006 f-150 FX4 w/ 5.4L Triton. About a perfect car!

I can't believe I love a Ford..... seriously.
I've had a new Focus for about two weeks and I love it. I've had mostly VWs (GTI and Jetta GLI), a 2003 Civic and a 2008 Mazda 6. The overall driving experience is hands down a win for the Focus (surprisingly). The VW GTIs I've had accelerated faster (obviously); but the Focus corners and handles far better; and while it's not a rocket it's decent. The tradeoff is the mileage. I'm getting 26-30 in hardcore city driving and 30-35 on short highway excursions. It's the quietest car I've ever owned as well. The car is very comfortable and has a ton of features. SYNC does take some getting use to, but now I like it. The transmission is a little temperamental at parking lot speeds; but that seems to be getting better now. There's plenty of room in the back and the seats fold down totally flat giving a lot of storage (or carting three big dogs). I'm driving this car till it can't be driven any more.

2012 Ford Focus SE
I've had my Focus for 2 weeks now and not one problem with anything at all. The transmission was a little quirky for the first 50 miles or so of in town driving, but great ever since and up to 1200 miles now. Superior sound system, ride, and my sync works great. Great mileage too, mostly town, highway, very little interstate so far and I have been averaging 34.4mpg. How nice it is to fill up for $34 instead of the $90 I was used to.

tranny is a disaster
Rented this car for 3 weeks. se model with 6-speed tranny without manual shifts, I4 2.0L GDI. The car is ok, in fact handles and holds the road just great. I owned a '03 bmw 3-series and I can say that Focus is on the same level even being a FWD. Very sporty suspension. but the tranny is just so awful!! So slow on kick down, and overall very stupid thing. the lag is like 2 seconds and then it just bursts forward when you already don't expect this. tried to drive slow and the car shakes and twitches. Fuel economy is average. I used to have '99 and '03 Honda Civics, no comparison what so ever. maybe titanium trim is somewhat better. Don't recommend. highly overpriced.

So Far So Good
Bought this car in March, downsizing a bit now that The Offspring have moved out. I was actually looking for a Mazda3 hatch with manual trans but none were available in my area. I'd read some magazine reviews about the Focus, all generally very positive, so scouted out several dealerships and eventually test drove & bought a Focus SE hatch with manual. I like overall comfort & driveability, a/c is great, engine has adequate power, the electric power steering provides good feel, mileage meets expectations (around 30 in town) and in 5 months/5300 miles of driving it just lights off in the morning and runs with no issues. The manual trans is one of the best I've driven in over 40 years of driving; smooth with moderate throws, distinct gates, and a predictable clutch engagement point. A little awkward to heel & toe but not as hard as some other cars I've owned. The exterior styling, especially for the hatch, is attractive, unique, and should not look out of date in a couple years. Minus points for a Star Warsy entertainment console and some fit/finish/assembly issues around the RR passenger rubber window mouldings and what seems to be an improperly stamped hood resulting in an uneven gap along the LF fender. The 12.4 gal gas tank could be a couple gallons larger to be on par with other cars in this class but with its mileage not a big deal. I have read at length the comments by frustrated owners of cars with the DCT and MFT software; however, mine not being equipped with those I just don't have those kinds of problems. This has the potential to be a truly great car but Ford needs to address some issues that never should have made it to production.

Don't buy 2012 focus
New titanium focus, with major issues with transmission and sync system. Forget about the electronics, we know they are junk. This car shudders, rolls backwards in drive, upshifts on a downhill slope while coasting - hitting 6000 rpm on its own. My father worked for Ford for over 35 years. Dealer has done two updates to the car, and tells me there is no fix now. Ford tells me it will not buy me out. Don't buy this car- well documented on internet - research it. Two clutches and no torque converter - stay away.

Most difficult to use car I've ever owned.
Sync does not work, EcoMode does not come up, Sound increase will not work(even after being worked on)! The little car is there and works; however, it has a very difficult way of getting to its works features and no explanation in the manual to help you. Indeed most of the employees at the dealership are divided upon how to use its features and are not prepared to show you how(even if they could). The main man had to use an operator to get Sync to hook up to my cell phone? The only problem is you can not do that every time as you only have 60 uses over 3 years and they charge you for each after that. Indeed even after managing to connect to Sync once on my own---it shut me off in the middle of the call. It does not recognize many commands and in total is not ready for retail on the market to consumers, unless they are going to train their employees to show customers how to use it properly!

Disappointed
I bought this car at the end of April. The automatic transmission was terrible - jerky and too slow to shift gears. Recent service bulletin and software upgrade have improved transmission performance, but its still disappointing. I find the car noisy, as if the driver window is open a little. When I plug in my Iphone 4s I hear a lot of feedback/static. Seats are more comfortable than the old Focus, but I don't like the fixed height of the front of the seat. You feel every little bump in the road, and even on smooth roads there seems to be vibration from the engine I've owned 5 Fords, 3 of them Focuses, and this is the most disappointing. I doubt I'll buy another.

Great mileage
Currently our overall MPG is 38.8, that is a combo of town and highway. On our 1st long trip we reached 41.8 mpg. Sporty handling, confortable, however we went from a small suv to the SE 4-dr sedan aand the trunk capacity has been ahuge adjustment.
