Think before you buy a 2012 focus
Car look nice, in highway it a good car, suspension are hard, but the worst of this car it the dual transmission, just kick everytime you are in the traffic and push gaz and brake, just give some good bounce, if you what to buy a 2012 focus, just go try one and try to reproduct what it will be in traffic...for me NEVER I will buy a Ford Focus with I know it before...thank for reading..

Best little car I could have ever bought
This car has more bells and whistles than our Cadillac Escalade! Took this on a 530 round trip this past weekend and got an average mileage of 38.2 which is great! I have got a 43.7 MPG trip through hills and curves also. I absolutely love the SYNC system! I don't know why people complain about the transmission or interior maybe they are use to buying vehicles that are cheaply made with no creature comforts. My 79 year old grandmother loves this car and she is a Caddy Queen!!! IMPRESSIVE!

Yes!
This car has been getting "best in class" reviews, and they are justified. An amazing value for $21K. Finally US manufacturers - or at least Ford - are learning not to skimp on compact cars. This roomy hatchback holds the road like a sports car, runs close to 30 mpg around town and 40 mpg on the highway [five speed], and has plenty of power. The SYNC system takes some configuation, but is seamless between phone, radio, Ipod, satellite, CD. Room in back for my bike with the seats down. Seats are supportive and comfortable on long trips. Quiet firm ride and very good visibility. A pleasure to drive - even on short trips. Everything works!

Who needs to change
Well, I am a happy driver of a new Focus 2012 SEL full loaded. I really like this car even though some people had some issues with theirs. I would like to say that most of the problems are not due to the car itself, but the lack of understanding and knowledge of what the car/its systems can do and cannot. I read a lot of comments before buying the car and after testing it thorougly I decided to go for it. And had never problems with it till now. And hopefully it will get me to 240K km like my last one. I would like to address some issues I think they don't represent the reality. And no, I am not linked to Ford nor anything else. I only love my car. 1. Some people complain about the fact that the car "rolls back when on a slope". Well, if those people read the manual of their car, they would know how to use the "hill start assist" (page 277). 2. Other people complain about the "transmission shuttering". Well, the fact is the transmission on Focus is not an automatic we are used to. It behaves different and instead of demanding it to change, change your style of driving. Push a bit harder on the gas pedal at startup and it will behave as you expect. I'd say to those who don't like to change, don't buy new technologies cars then. 3. A lot of people complain about MFT. Well, I have some news for them : MFT it is not an iPad nor Windows 7. Learn to be more calm and don't push buttons after buttons if the system doesn't respond as quick as you like. Let it the time to compile what it has to and you'll be less frustrated about it. And besides, it is only an "option". So if you don't think you'll like it, don't buy it. None of the products on the market that use vocal commands are 100% trouble free. And none of the systems on the market are compatible with everything else too. So use what is compatible to it. I am sure you'll be happier with the system. 4. Those who complain that active park assist doesn't work for the left side of the roads, read again your manual and you'll know that it can (page 289). So, all in all, I had never had any problems with my car since the day one. Yes, this Focus is a new "beast" and a new "ziggy", it has its ups and downs, but first, before complaining read at least its operating manuals. And yes, there are people that don't like to be "beta testers". I say to them, don't buy it then. Wait until the second release and you'll be less frustrated. When I bought the car, I did it knowing that maybe some problems may occure. But hey, I was lucky enough to not have any problems or better said : I learnt to use the car so that no problems occur due to my lack of knowledge. Yes, I changed a bit here and there, but hey, I do enjoy now every ride with it.

Not Impressed Here
We rented a loaded 2012 Focus SEL sedan for a 600 mile excursion, which included a mix of highway cruising, stop and go city traffic, and country back roads. After all the media road-test review hype, my expectations were high. While the Focus' interior materials are "better" than some of the competition, the dashboard design is visually messy, with a collage of oddly-angled buttons, too many textures and seams. The driving position is also odd: when the seat is adjusted for a comfortable fit with respect to the driver's relationship with the pedals and arm rest, I found the steering wheel - even at its lowest setting - is still too high by an inch or two. Handling and braking were fine, but the powertrain felt weak and became unappealingly buzzy when working hard - trying to merge and keep up - in very ordinary situations. In creeping traffic and at parking lot speeds, the automatic transmission was rattly, clunky, and it shuddered as if it were in need of an overhaul. Ford: Just build these cars with a normal 6-speed automatic and eliminate this automatic clunk-box, as it gives the impression that the engineering team screwed up. I know that by comparison, the Honda Civic is soft and bland, but at least the Civic feels meticulously engineered.

Transmission Sucks!
I can drive a manual transmission. I bought an automatic transmission. I cannot apparently learn to drive an automatic that has a manual transmission. My dealer tells me Ford is aware of the problem (super annoying shift programming from automatic transmission; chirping tires while accelerating on slight incline from stop because the transmission can't figure out what gear it should be in) but is unable to fix. I've had it almost stall on a steeper hill, I chirp tires every day, the trans is constantly hunting for the correct gearing in 1-3...it's just been really frustrating and disappointing.

The best fuel efficient car I had
I have a 2012 ford focus se with the sfe package And package 203a with the auto standard trans Coming from a jeep the gas mileage is outrageous I used to pay 7500 a week to 3500 in gas what a difference the car shifts smooth you have to get used to the slight rolling on starting as the engine is disconnected while stopped than as you take your foot off the brake you feel the engine engage. The car is built solid no rattles or noises And the hd,sirus, sync is awesome bonus to have! I'm very happy with the sporty feel of the car in general Plenty of power with the fuel efficiency if you need more power get a mustang otherwise this is a good solid reliable car!

Ford Focus 2012 SE Manual hatch: A driver's car
Just sold my Nissan altima sedan for the slightly smaller 2012 Ford Focus SE Hatch/Manual w/Leather and option package 203a. Fantastic choice. The vehicle far surpasses its direct peers and feels like a German sedan. It literally feels like it was cut from a single block of steel. The manual transmission is a great feature - and is perfectly synched with the engine. Sync - for some this is the selling point - for me it has turned out to be a great benefit I wasn't aiming for - the phone pairing works wonderfully, sirius is great, and the overall design is top notch. Ford has delivered a globally leading product that is a MUST see if you are looking at small sedans/hatch. Hyundai has done a great job of late - but they are still a notch behind this product. I don't miss the Nissan (and its terrible reliability) one bit. Good luck in your buying decision! Nick

Ford almost made a great little car
I rented a 2012 Focus for 9 days and put it through the ringer. My first impression was the transmission was skipping or notchy. The 2.o liter motor did not like starting off slowly or mid throttle. It bogged chugged and then ran like the devil was chasing it.Lots of power once revved up .Handling was pretty good and rode well without road noise. At one point from a dead start the tranny actually banged as it rolled forward.I never figured out the radio or how to manually tune in stations. Not fun to tune ( or try to ) while driving.

Ford Focus 2012 Hatchback worst transmission
I'm sure I wouldn't bother to write this if I was happy with the car. Worst transmission ever. On the highway on cruise control I am averaging 22 mpg. Car has been in the shop multiple times and has randomly shifted on its own to a dead stand still multiple times on the freeway. The rear view mirror shows only the roof to a taller driver. The side pillars create a terrible blind spot for taller drivers as well. Shifting though!!!! So bad!!!!! Test drive carefully!
