The little truck that could

I have a 2001 4x4 off road with 55,000 miles. This truck can do most of what an F-150 can do, unless you are towing more than 5000 lbs. If you get the 4.0L V6 with the towing package, it includes an oil cooler and a 4:10 rear axle ratio, which makes it great fun with the 5 speed auto, but does take a hit on gas mileage. I'm a lead foot and routinely wind it to redline thru 1st, & 2nd and my average is about 16MPG. The only complaint is the french built 5 speed trans has had the gasket fail and needed major service at only 20,000 miles. Lucky for me it was still under warranty. With the new 5 year warranty offered by Ford, I'd wouldn't have a problem with it. I will agree, however that the only engine combo to get is the 4.0L V6 unless you just need cheap transpo and want a pickup with good gas mileage. Make sure you opt for the bed extender, it is totally worth the $200 and aftermarket versions will cost you more. It really makes it easy to load her up with stuff. You can have one of these and still afford to get that convertable Mustang too!

My first ranger

I've just purchased my first Ranger a week ago. (2006 FX4 w/automatic transmission and 4.0L) Actually it's my first 4x4 pickup ever. I pretty much knew what I was buying and have been supprised in only a few small ways. 1) The truck is solid and quieter than I had expected. No squeeks or rattles. Handles rough train track crossings with grace. 2) The tires are not very good on wet roads. It's supprisingly easy to spin when taking off from a standstill. (and I have the limited slip axle too) 3) The radio & speakers are significantly better than I thought they would be. 4) I heard gas milage was less than desirable. Looks like 18-19 mpg will be my life. (and I drive easy) I like the truck very much and look foward to many years of service and doing some small modifications to it.

Solid Truck

I just bought a '06 Ranger Sport, 4X4, 4.0L, auto, i have always been a fan of ford trucks, and after buying this one will likely buy more, the truck is put together solid, only a few road nosies when going around hard corners or when on a bumpy road.

Nice truck

Good truck , but rides like a truck, too stiff. Also Ford is still stuck on lousy mileage for any ranger. My 1998 Ranger with a 4 cylinder got lousy mileags too.

The best of the best

I'm currently driving my 3rd Ranger which is a 2005 FX4. It's very comfortable and has great available options. It's also very reliable, not one problem with it so far. I slid on ice and crashed into a guardrail a few months ago and I walked away without a scratch. The damage to the truck was relatively minimal so it's a very well built truck. The only complaint I have is the gas mileage with the 4.0L V6. Also I would like to have a little more hp. I know that asking for more hp AND better gas mileage is asking too much but I believe Ford can do it, some kind of way. Also, it's time for a total re-design. The truck has only had several minor cosmetic changes over the last 6 years or so.

comparioson to Tachoma

I just bought a 2007 ranger sport and it's a great truck. I lookd at the very popular Tachoma and it just lookd and felt like it was just thrown together. The interior is built for kids with shiny silver plastic everywhere. Ok, it had 247hp vs 207 but come on.....were not talking sports cars are we? The Ranger is extreamly solid and comfortable...and...if you have a significan't "other"...in the Tachoma, they have to sit over on they're side, with the Ranger, you can just flip up the center console and you then have seating for thre in front!

First time owner of a compact truck

I own a STX SuperCab 2x4,3.0 V6,automatic. This is the most comfortable vehicle I've ever driven. The seats are good on my bad back, and the legroom is very spacious for a tall person like myself. The steering has a nice firm feel, and is very responsive. The controls, and gauges are wisely placed, and within easy reach. The fuel economy on the 3.0 V6 is much better than I expected. And yes,the Ranger is very attractive both inside and out.

diannz review

I was very pleased at the body effects og the sport ranger, however i was disatisfied about the handling, gas mileage factor. I have already hit a deer in it, 2 weeks after i bought it brand new, and it does not hold up in a deer inpact at 45 mph, i cant imagine what it would be like if it were involved with another car, ouch!
