Great all around vehicle--can't go wrong

This is a very good car. My third Accord and I will likely buy another one after I drive this one ten years or so. Comfortable, well made vehicle. You just can't go wrong for the money. It also gets 34 mpg highway and about 25 mpg in the city. My only complaint at all is it is a bit sluggish when accelerating from a dead stop. However, you just get so much for what you pay. The reliability is there, it is roomy, and it is amazingly quiet. I wish it had a 60/40 rear seat, but it does have a pass-through section if needed. The Accord is ideal for just about anyone who wants a reliable, well made, functional every day driver. You can't go wrong.

Accord versus Sonata

After my Camry with 150K+ miles broke down, I narrowed my search to the Accord and Sonata. Did a lot of online search, read expert reviews, and consumer reviews (most helpful). I also rented a Sonata GLS for a week before buying the Accord EX-L. The Sonata and Accord were parked side-by-side on the driveway for a day, and both were light blue, which was kind of cool! Some thoughts about the relative merits of the two cars: 1. Exterior: personal preference but I thought both are handsome vehicles. I preferred the conservative looks of the Accord, my kids the Sonata, so this may be a generational issue. Verdict: Tie 2. Interior: The Honda feels more roomy for the driver. The area under the steering wheel was somewhat cramped in the Sonata and my right knee kept hitting against the central console pillar. However, the controls were definitely easier to reach in the Sonata, looked cooler with a soft blue backlight, and the material was more modern looking and polished. The Accord controls by comparison, are somewhat hard to reach without stretching the arm out fully and looked gray and drab even in a brand new car. Verdict: Tie (Honda: space, Hyundai: controls) 3. Seat comfort: Absolute victory for the Sonata. The cloth seats in Sonata were soft and comfortable and after a 22 mile commute I got off feeling relaxed. The Accord EX-L leather seats are a disaster. My legs and hips felt stiff and I could not get comfortable even with the notorious lumbar support completely deflated. Did not anticipate this problem since the test drives in the dealership were short. People with back problems should consider this issue very carefully. Verdict: Sonata by a mile. 4. Steering and handling: Convincing victory for the Accord. Steering is an absolute joy and the wheel feels smooth and balanced with barely a vibration. I had to fight the wheel at hight speeds in the Sonata, although it was quite smooth and responsive at low speeds. 5. Cabin quietness: Sonata by a small margin. The infamous Accord cabin noise was not as bad as I had feared but is clearly present. I rented the small Ford Focus recently and it has a quieter cabin and more comfortable ride than the Accord or the Sonata. Must be a Ford thing. 6.Do not have enough experience with either car to comment on reliability and not enough data with the Accord's fuel efficiency. I got 32 mpg with the Sonata with mainly highway driving (The rental car had 11K miles on the odometer). The real time fuel efficiency monitor on the Sonata is very cool. Summary: Both cars are very good. The Sonata is a serious challenger to the Accord. Honda REALLY needs to fix the following in the next generation Accord: Seat comfort, road noise, and the dated controls and their layout. However, handling is an absolute joy and the reason the Accord is still in the game.

Our 5th Honda

We,ve had 2 civics and 3 accords.Almost bought a Civic but decided the Accords is a better value for only $2000 more. Wanted a 2012 but was told they won,t be available until October.

good practical car

This car is well built. It is very well designed. The only problem that I have is the consumer service is terrible. I had a problem with the radio and they refused to change it until their service center figured out the problem. It took four trips to the dealer and two months later I finally convinced them to change the radio which solved the problem. The Honda consumer relations office was rude. I even spoke to the manager and she was rude also. They refused to help. Thankfully the dealership worked with us to resolve the problem. This may keep me from buying another Honda.

Over priced with cheap plastic interior design.

Owned the 2011 Honda Accord EX-L for about a month and am extremely disappointed with cheap plastic knobs and cheap looking dash board, very hard seats, noisy cabin, stiff suspension, jerky transmission shift and failure to incorporate new innovations and technology for safety , convenience and comfort. For instance, no blind spot monitoring or turn signal lighting on the side mirror or push button start up. Consumer Report is correct in pointing out the lack of fit and finish and cheap interior for Civic to which Honda responded by saying the car itself is realiable and popular. Overall, Honda has chosen not to provide value for the car, instead ,it is still riding on its past good reputations. The question is for how long? Honda does not provide 24 hour road side assistance nor routine maintenance for three (3) years warranty period. Honda's present gimmeck is to provide very low financing. I have less than 1000 miles on the car and cannot evaluate its reliabilty or gas mileage. Honda Accord is considered a full size automobile and even with 4 cylinder 190 hp engine, the car is sluggish with A/C running. More approprite engine size would be 6 cylinder which Honda also provides. So far, I am not too impressed with the gas mileage in mixed driving conditions. Finally, at the price point around $30,000, Accord EX-L does not represent a good value and is not a comfortable car. Honda has continued with its old "tired" interior or exterior design. I believe, Honda's target marketing consumers would be middle aged, middle class population sector. With very competitive U.S. auto market in this price range, Honda's past advantage may evaporate as other manufacturers offer better warranty, better material, equally reliable products with innovative design and aggressive price structures.

Sexy Ride

My family has been a big Honda fan. This is our 4th Honda (Element, Ridgeline, Accord Crosstour, Accord Coupe) and we love them! I drove our Acura RDX before this, and I cannot believe how little a step down it was to go from the RDX to an Accord. It rides beautifully, looks sexy, and is extremely powerful for a four cylinder! The gas mileage is spectacular! However, I do not like the fact it does not come with universal garage door opener for $28,000. Other than that, I cannot complain at all!

It will run forever

I been buying cars new and used every year for over 30 years, and the Honda's has always been the most trouble free cars I ever had. I have driven Fords (A ton of problems and way too much on repair costs), GM's (used to be great now they went down the toilet),Toyota's(Also used to be great now they have now pedal problems.),Subaru's(Okay but high maintenance.),Nissan's(Only good for a short time when bought brand new, then its time to get rid of it),Volkswagen's(small, bad taste, and expensive to own.),Suzuki's(Got only one word to say... RUN!!),Mitsubishi's(Made cheap and poor, you are in pain for almost a month and the car is totaled only in a minor accident),Hyundai(Great warranty, and I have to say it really does come in handy), Chrysler's(Nothing but a headache with them, their values drop dramatically right away, extremely poor gas mileage and never drivable because their up on the lift all the time at the mechanic). So get a vehicle that will always put a smile on your face and will keep going and going on the road for many years and for many miles and will always keep money in your bank account. For example a Honda(my favorite is the Accord)!

PZEV rating, 33mpg and American Made - Amazing!

I can't get over the low emissions, the incredible mileage for a real car (v. golf cart or lunar lander) and that is made with US labor and parts. This car is so smooth and quiet, it is almost scary.

No surprises

Typical Honda reliability. Car is bullet proof. EX-L new 190hp 4 cyclinder is improved over 170hp. More pep, better gas mileage. Handling is great as it the interier room and trunk. Back seat is a true 4 person auto. Great features in the interior. Leather seats not quite as comfortable as my last accord. Road noise could be a little quieter. Great value.
