Do Not Settle For Less, Honda is the Best

I almost bought a van from the competition because the many incentives offered, but I couldn't settle for less. It is worth every penny!

Eddie

One more Odyssey that enters our garage. We traded a 2011 Odyssey Elite for the 2014 Elite. Made sense since we like this model, and for the last 10 years it has been the vehicle of choice. Found a great price at a fine dealership (better than most, anyways). Was a little mad that Adaptive Cruise Control was not part of the package. Also, the navigation map seem to have lost its previous luster, but we are happy to know that it is updated with the newer data. Found that some of the techno features, specially those you have to pay a fee to use, a little hard to want to get into. Sirius XM is another matter, and will be seeking price for a lifetime membership if still available. We figured having traded a 2011 for a 2014, for a much lesser monthly payment, and for a much better price to start the negotiations, has basically put as in a nice position to see what is unveiled by Honda Odyssey in 2016. These Vans do keep a nice trade in value if kept looking nice, and they are reliable transportation. The vacuum included only appeals to the females in the group, for as I said I would have preferred the ACC and stop at my local car wash place, or use home vacuum. As a knowledgeable reviewer has pointed out it does get noisy at times. I started hearing like a whistle kind noise, and I am hoping is the vents that are closed in the back. Otherwise, as good as this vehicle looks it is not an auspicious beginning. These subtle, irritating noises sometimes are hard to identify their source, and good luck trying to describe it at the dealership. Must admit that our 2011 was every bit as good as the 2014, perhaps in some areas, even a little more pleasing. Still, the investment has been made: new tires, new air conditioning (is it me or this year's is a lot colder?), new map, and a vehicle that know and likes to travel long and far. 5 Stars.

My favorite, most reliable van I've owned

This is a continuation of 2000 Ford Windstar review " Worst Car I have ever owned". I tried to trade my red 2000 Ford Windstar SEL in for either a 2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L with Honda D.V.D rear entertainment system or a 2013 Toyota Sienna XLE with Entertainment package, but neither dealer took it because it was such a L-E-M-O-N. Comparing my Windstar to the Yugo my parents had when i was a kid, they have the same reliability issues. I wound up calling the finance company to come and get it and picked out a new beautiful, reliable, dependable, Celestial blue 2014 Honda Odyssey EX-L with Honda dvd rear entertainment system. We plan on annual cross country road trips in the odyssey, which we couldn't in the windstar because we couldn't drive it more than a half hour because if we did, the cruise control would overheat and it wouldn't start up in the Montana cold. The kids LOVE the rear entertainment system and they always want to go in the van to watch a movie in it. Me and my husband love the heated leather seats, pandora, xm radio, the cool box, which actually keeps water bottles cold, tri zone automatic temperature control, the windstar didn't even have air conditioning, rearview camera, hondalink, onemagic third row, the conversation mirror to keep an eye on the kids, and the second row trash bag to keep the new van clean and tidy.

2014 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite

Very reliable and safe based on Consumer Reports review. Gas mileage one of the highest in this category of car. Center radio/entertainment console a little bit complicated at first use. Navigation system could be better. Interior very roomy and comfortable.

My Odyssey experience so far

I have owned an awful lot of vehicles over the years, from sports cars to many different sedans, SUV's, minivans, cargo vans, medium duty cab-over trucks, and even four motorcycles. This is to say that I have a pretty extensive ownership experience from which to judge a new vehicle. My last few vehicles have been Hondas - a couple of Fits, a Civic, an Accord and, finally, a loaded Element, one of my favorite all-around utility vehicles. Well, this 2014 Odyssey (LX), bought just last week is pretty amazing. It is surprisingly quiet, very roomy in all directions, rides and handles exceptionally well for a minivan, is very intelligently designed with just about every good way of arranging the interior possible, and, when needed, has enough room behind the first row seats to be a very viable alternative to a rough and noisy cargo van. The front and second row seats are excellent with both very good support and comfort - they're just hard enough, shaped well and the cloth on my LX feels and looks very good. The third row seat is very nice, but, necessarily, not up to the same standards, although it will very comfortably seat two normal adults - with or without a child in the middle seat, or three fairly thin grown-ups. The door appointments are only of average quality plastic, but at least are set up ergonomically. The IP, center-stack and dash are terrific, designed well and probably better - because they're simpler to use - than the more up-level trim versions. And, for the driver, neither your left nor right knees are impinged by any sharp plastic at all - very good. The front center floor bin separating the driver and passenger is the only glaring mistake in the otherwise seemingly upmarket LX interior trim. It is just a flat plastic tray on the floor with a short lip dividing it into compartments with a couple of shallow cup-holders. It seems like a silly saving of the $25.00 it would have cost to include the much deeper and more practical bin from the upscale Odyssey models. The drivers outward vision is very good in pretty much all directions, aided by the well designed outside mirrors. Of course, the backup camera, standard even in this lowest trim level, is a wonderful aid to your awareness when reversing. The electronics and digital gadgets all work very well, are easy to understand and quite extensive for a vehicle at this trim level. The phone and messaging functions, including the voice commands, synched easily and perfectly with my Nokia 920, even though it was not listed as compatible with the system on Honda's website. The audio, heating and cooling and various display options and controls are very good and presented no problems at all. The Odyssey rides and handles like a very good car, not like a minivan at all. This is high praise. The engine and transmission work very quietly and very well, with smooth shifting and more than adequate acceleration. The only slight hiccup in the smooth transmission of power in the drivetrain is that you can sometimes feel just an extremely faint "tremor" in the driveline when the V-6 goes changes to run on 4 or fewer cylinders in "econ" mode. Overall, it is not even mildly annoying, and most people won't even notice it at all. The brakes stop the Odyssey nicely; they're not in the same league with sports cars, but they're no worse than the completion and they work smoothly and quietly to bring the car to a quick stop with minimum diving or other fuss. Now, what I consider the best and most surprising finding I have made so far; if you drive this car with a light foot - not even hypermiling, but just a very careful and light application of the throttle whenever it is practical, while easily keeping up with suburban traffic, I am getting between 24 and 28 mpg overall in mostly short to medium length suburban driving, all the while keeping the highway portion down to less than 10% of the total. This is a truly amazing performance. It's a little to early in my ownership experience to yet say anything definitive about my Odyssey, but If the reliability and longevity of this minivan is up to the best Honda standards, this vehicle may turn out to be my favorite in a very long time.

HondaOdyssey

After owning a Toyota Sienna for years and having good experiences with it I thought this was the way to go on a new model. However, after talking with friends who owned the Honda products I was convinced to go to the nearby dealer and drive several and arrive at my own conclusion. All vehicles handled superbly and were a joy to drive. I finally decided on the Honda Odyssey for the feature package it offered and the overall comfort provided. The car has been a blessing to own and one which I would recommend for anyone. The Honda product has proven to be more reliable, comfortable and performance plus than Toyotas and other brands I have owned and driven

2014 Odyssey

Well we just got the car. We got a very good price and a pretty good trade on our car. We dealt with 2 excellent dealers 1 on Essington ave in Pennsylvania (PIazza) and one in Newark De, Martin. We ended up going with Martin due to the better trade in value. We were very impressed with the car. Now we were comparing this to Sienna and quest 2013. There was no comparison, the price was as good. It has more safety feature. Right lane camera, forward impact sensor, back up camera, lane change. We also bought the extended warranty 8 y 120,000 which we got a good price

2014 Elite

Just picked up a 2014 Odyssey Elite. Traded in my 2009 EXL. The seats seem firmer, ride is very nice and it's a lot quieter. Still trying to figure out everything on it - especially the voice nav system - the manual is so thick with so much information. Push button start and everything associated with it is just outstanding. Like the mirrors that point down when you put it in reverse. Feel the new safety features like the blind spot info, lane departure and the forward collision warning features are just excellent. Cool box, vac, XM radio and Honda link are not things I would use. Will know a lot more after my trip out to west.
