Most reliable car I have owned.
This car met all my expectations. A lot of leg room, especially in front. And what I love in parti-cular of this car is its low fuel consumption.

Had it for 72 hours, that was enough.
The exterior is basic & ugly, but I guess most cars were in 2004. The ride is rough, handling isn't good. Seats were okay. Interior is ugly, cheap & confusing. The car is reliable according to the owners so it isn't a total loss. Hyundai makes ugly, boring cars to drive that are reliable it seems.

Most reliable car I've owned.
I am pushing 200k miles. Paid a little over $10k out the door. Wow! Will likely replace with another Hyundai.

One of the most reliable cars I've owned
Got it used from Dealer paid 3,800.00 in 2015. Never had it break down and leave me stranded. Only needed regular maintenance items.

Good first car
Surprisingly roomy for it's size. Easily usable as a family car. The back seats flip down with more than enough room for normal purposes. In terms of reliability, I owned the car from about 73k to about 89k miles. The biggest issue was a squealing belt and a failed water pump and alternator around 85k. This seems common in cold weather for these cars, I've heard the rather distinctive sound from several others as well. Additionally, the clearcoat started peeling pretty badly towards the end, and it developed a rust issue in the rear wheel wells.

Great reliable car
Car is definitely not the most stylish, but it doesn't look too bad. Gets you where you need to go and back and then some. Surprisingly enough I've enjoyed the ride I've gotten from this car and had to put little money of my own into it over the three years I've owned it.

Our "Shelly"
Our 2004 Hyundai Elantra was named Shelly by our daughter (at age7) when purchased in Dec 2004. With only 200 miles, she was brand new to me/us. Fast forward 13 years, Shelly is still working as good as the day purchased. She now has 175k+ miles. She may be old but I love her. Although others may even turn their noses up to the lack of technology in a now 13 year old car, she can still run with the best of them. She has been one the best purchases I have ever made. She has taken us daily to work, school, practices, games, beaches, and even the dreadful driving lesson when our little girl finally turned 16yo. The memories are endless. Never once has Shelly complain -seriously not once. We had to replaced one radiatior due to a bad tech during a routine oil change. Other than that all original pieces and parts have gone untouched. In 2017, I still drive Shelly daily confident she will take me anywhere I need to go. I can't say enough abt our Shelly except thank you to Hyundai for such a great car.

Late lover
I bought this 2004 GT Hatchback used with 145,000 miles on it hoping that my son in college will use it We are the third owners, and the car is far from new. But, our mechanic says it is safe, reliable, and likely to last another 50,000 plus miles, so we bought it. It does everything well and and it has plenty of pep. Its sporty, it handles well and its interior remains in pretty good shape for its age. I'm really sorry that I didn't buy it new, because I've missed out on years of fun!

BLAH! :(
The 2004 Hyundai Elantra sucks .The exterior looks like a cheap car.The interior is the same,a lot of hard plastic. The car is unstable after 4 years, you can hear the car shaking like crazy. We keep our cars in great condition and we do services all the time for our cars. The Hyundai Elantra fails to impress us.We also found some water inside the headlights and back stop lights. This is an example of a poor quality car.In 2008,my brother came back from Davis,CA and he got into a car accident with this car. This car was totaled. To replace it,we bought a 2003 Toyota Corolla Matrix which was 100 times better than this "CAR". Korean car companies (Hyundai & Kia) used to suck, but buying a 2010 or newer Korean car is better. They have better looking exteriors.

Honda vs. Hyundai
I have owned Hondas most of my life with few or no problems up to 150k so I was surprised when I purchased this 2004 Hyundai Elantra with some of the issues I have spent money on. The two front struts went out at 60k, cost $500 to replace. The catalytic converter is going out, received engine error code. The front dash is cracked from the sun, the foam on the steering wheel column has peeled off to reveal the steel underneath. The front chrome accent fell off the other day. The side trim on the doors fell off. Durability issues and unusual repairs that should not be spending money on. Based upon this car, I would not buy Hyundai again although I believe there durability has improved.
