2001 cherokee

Good reliable vehicle if you need a rugged four-wheel-drive or just a mall crawler. Read the Cherokee blogs so you know what you are getting into. All of these leak oil, or have lots of little aggravating problems.

One of those cars that just keep kickn'.

Reliable and powerful engines that keep going. These things are almost bulletproof if you at least change the oil. Oldie but goodie.

Durable workhorse vehicle for road or dirt

I owned the Cherokee Sport version. Though only a 2WD, it handled offroad chores well (so long as it wasn't muddy.) Also a work/commuter vehicle for me for 10 years. We have street flooding frequently, handled it great, and parks easier than a truck and modern SUVs.

Favorite Car I've Owned

Sure, my friends called it the toaster on wheels because of it's small boxy shape - but man this car was my favorite. The 4.0 L engine sounds and runs great - very reliable jeep motor. It is relatively small on the inside but can still fit 5 people. Gas mileage is pretty decent, the 4WD comes in handy. Overall a great car - great for a first car.

My first and best car!

I had a Jeep Cherokee Sport for my first car. I constantly felt safe in it and the interior was extremely comfortable! Yes it was an '01 so it was pretty old, but it still ran like a dream and was going REALLY well with 17 year old manufacturer parts still in it. I never had to worry about not making it somewhere or whether to be worried about how I would end up while in an accident because my Jeep was literally a tank. One of the best cars I've ever owned and has got me officially hooked on Jeep.

Best SUV Ever Made

I loved the boxy Jeep Cherokee look since they first came out in 1984 and I joined the Jeep family with a purchase of a 1986 Cherokee Laredo. But perhaps the last model year of the Jeep Cherokee, 2001, was their best. I had the 2001 Limited, one of the last to ever come off the line on June 26, 2001, and it was a dream come true. Beautiful, elegant, yet unpretentious styling was matched with solid performance and reliability. I babied my car, putting only 38,000 miles on it in the first nine years, and the rare use of it allowed the new car smell to "cook" in, still noticeable nine years later. Alas, someone pulled in front of me and I lost my vehicle to their incompetence after that nine year mark. Meanwhile you still see tons of these workhorses on the road and their high used prices are a testament to their quality. Jeep recently re-introduced the Cherokee brand because research showed such warm feelings for the name, but incredibly changed the styling to an every-other-SUV look instead of bringing back the classic boxy look everyone still loves 33 years after its initial launch.
