2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee consumer reviews

I bought a 2012 diesel overland back in August and I'm very pleased with the car so far. I have put 8,000km's on the clock and have had no issues. I've towed a 2.2t boat and launched/recovered it on a step ramp. I plan to do 2500km's over a 10 day period at Xmas and look forward to seeing how she cruises under load up the east coast of Australia. I looked at the Toyota Prado VX and Kakadu, Mitsubishi Pagero limited and VW Amorok as comparisons against the Jeep. I'm 6'10 and 122Kg's with a so-so back from sporting injuries over the years. A roomie car that has seats that can adjust to my long back and leg is number 1. The power and fuel efficiency is second. Bang for your buck is third. The Jeep ticks all three boxes for me. For what you get it kills the other three makes on price and standard features. Toyota Australia your Prado is going to have a run for its money. Jeep Overland kills your VX and Kakado models for comfort, power, standard features and drivablity.

Just bought the vehicle one month ago and it's already in the shop. I put less than a thousand miles on it and the thermostat housing has began leaking coolant. Vehicle does not seem to have the power expected but its what I chose to buy so I guess it will have to do. Won't make this mistake next time as I will definitely be going back to Ford.

I love the style and handling. Bought the Grand Cherokee with the Sport Package. Mine has a V-6 but I wish I would haven't upgraded to the V-8 regardless of the lower mpg. This car is too heavy for a V-6 engine. It really pulls going uphill. I've had some issues with air-conditioning (blows warmer air and then blaring cold at times) and the car makes a clunking noise on the right when I hit a bump. Sure would have been nice to get a perfectly functioning vehicle for a few thousand miles. Overall I'm happy with the car.

the only negative thing I have to say about this car is that is very high so is difficult to get into it. I have ordered running boards but they are very slow in coming in.

Overall, my family and I absolutely love our 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee! We have already logged over 4,000 miles on the vehicle in just over two months, both on long-distance trips (Las Vegas and Los Angeles from Phoenix) and off-road in the Arizona wilderness. We picked a Grand Cherokee Laredo with both the 4x4 drive-train and the 5.7 liter Hemi engine...both choices have already payed dividends in scaling a 12 mile long, rutted, and boulder-strewn Sedona dirt road during an unexpected downpour. In short, the Grand Cherokee drives a highway as smooth as a passenger car, yet handles mid-to-high level off-road situations with the rugged, no-nonsense abilities you would expect from a Jeep. Extras like leather power seats, U-connect phone, enhanced entertainment system and back-up camera (all were upgrades that came with the V-8) all work well and are nice-to-have. So here are my gripes: first, while the front bucket seats are extremely comfortable, passengers in the back on our two long (5+ hours) trips reported a lack of cushion density and seat adjust-ability when sitting for long periods of time. Kids may be fine, but adults may feel less comfortable after the second or third hour. Next, and I admit this is a small gripe: the location of the headlight on-off knob is strategically located in a place that I hit with my knee almost every time I exit the vehicle. One of these days I will break off the switch by accident...or my knee. Finally, even though the gas mileage on the Hemi V-8 seems in line, or even slightly better than the manufacturer estimates, it is one thing to see the numbers, and another to fill the gas tank on a regular basis. But as one good friend tells me: "you don't get to complain about gas mileage when you buy a big V-8. You just don't." He may be right; I would not trade the power of the V-8 for the economy of the 6 cylinder (which I test drove)...but that is of course an expensive decision the potential buyer should weigh carefully. Finally, despite the few gripes above, my family and I love this Grand Cherokee. My wife has already told me our next new vehicle purchase (her turn) will be a Jeep.

This is my second Jeep GC, my first was a 06 JGC with the 4.7 lt motor loved this car was great for towing my 2.4 ton van just a bit thirsty on the fuel.Now own the 2012 JGC diesel love the changes, power of the diesel fantastic quicker off the mark than the V8 and so quiet especially for a diesel, the fuel economy is such a big plus doing 7.8 to 8.6 litres/100 km which is about half of my previous Jeep and love the interior and exterior the of the outside shows such a presence on the road, also have the QL air suspension what a bonus press the park mode and the car has lowered itself down to make getting gear out of the back so easy and when you set it to sport mode to see and feel it also lower on the highway making it feel like your glued to the road. Such an easy and comfortable car to drive, auto headlights, auto wipers, auto high beams you just put it in gear and just drive, the car seems to do everything for you automatically even voice activated audio just talk and it changes from radio to the HDD or ipod or dial the phone. What a step up and great job Jeep and all at a great price, definately value for money if Jeep keeps going like this I will never own anything else but a Jeep.

Owned lots of high end foreign SUVs and this Jeep has features and luxury touches not found in some costing $20k more. Looks like a Lexus inside, but has a phenomenal 4 WD system that can raise and lower it more than 4". Averaging 25 mpg in mostly country driving. Was concerned about Chrysler quality, but this thing is well built and have had no problems so far.

All SUVs this size are in the same price range, so price was not the main factor. Interior and exterior styling are gorgeous and the dashboard is quite logical. Extremely comfortable to drive or ride in and the seats sit a bit higher han he competitor's. I am happy we chose this vehicle and would absolutely buy it again!

The Cherokee was redesigned in 2011 and we bought the 2012 Grand Cherokee Overland. We traded in a 3 year old Lexus RX 350 and the Jeep rides as well, has far more advanced electronics and more bells and whistles for about $10,000 less. Traded in Lexus because of lack of legroom...however the seat was more comfortable than the Jeep. All in all I'd rate the Jeep higher and a better deal. Jury's out on resale value.

Its a great car-luxurious, handles beautifully and has a roomy interior with comfortable seating. The blind spot warning alert and the adaptive cruise control are great safety features. The HEMI engine provides all the power needed for everything from highway driving to towing heavy loads.
